Republicans Should Be TERRIFIED Of California Primary Results

In this Majority Report clip, Dave Weigel joins the show to update us on Tuesday's elections.

---California Democrats on Wednesday were poised to claim slots on nearly every House ballot on the year’s biggest day of primary elections, a major step forward in the party’s pursuit of the majority in November.

In a state heavily antagonistic toward President Trump, Democrats spent millions targeting roughly a half-dozen Republican-held congressional seats that could give them a chunk of the 23 seats they need to flip to gain majority control of the House.

Opposition to Trump and his policies produced scores of candidates, which complicated Democratic efforts in a state with an unorthodox primary system in which the top two vote-getters advance regardless of party. But by Wednesday morning, it was clear that Democratic candidates would compete in nearly all of the 53 districts.---

Alison Hartson running for Senate in a large population state on grassroots funding was a monumental task. She and her staff and volunteers got a lot of great experience out of this run. They probably need a short break, but will soon start strategizing for what's next. Hartson is young and has a great future.

The Justice Democrats and other progressive groups are chalking up wins in the primaries, and there are a lot more of those to come this cycle. I think voters are starting to see candidates with grassroots funding as more viable. When voters see that those candidates are not beholden to corporate interests, the voters will turn out. We are seeing candidates with about half the funding (NE 2: Eastman) actually win primaries. They just use their funds much more wisely, and do a lot of door knocking with volunteers.

The corporate media are terrified of grassroots candidates because those candidates are not sinking money into overpriced ad buys, so the media try desperately to ignore them, to write them off. NYT, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, WaPo don't give good coverage to progressives based on issues. The editors are not interested in actually informing their readers in a meaningful way about candidates who are not stuffing media pockets. But the progressive candidates just get more creative and they can and do win.

So disappointed Alison Hartson had such a poor showing. The MSM really did a good job of keeping her name and message out of the public eye. :(

We shouldn't be complacent, though. Confidence will only take you so far. We must vote.

Probably. That *does* tend to be what happens when to tell the state's largest and fastest-growing minority group "F you. You don't belong here and we don't want you here."

Fight for democracy and social rights. Fight against corruption. A political party is just a vehicle in politics. Include everybody.

The Washington Post? I remember back in 2003 when they had a front page article that said "Irrefutable", about how Saddam definitely had Weapons of Mass Destruction... Oops.

I mean if you actually look at the house seats he is talking about the the republican and progressive candidates have a big gap; no chance a progressive will replace the seat, and I like how he doesn’t mention 31st district or the 41st district; the incumbent in the 31st seat (a democrat) didn’t even win, a republican took first; the 41st district it looks like the incumbent can possibly lose in November (a democrat) if he doesn’t try; the democrats lost their super majority and John cox made it to the second round who people thought wouldn’t make it.

Dave Weigal may I say I like and respect you and the majority of your reporting and or views that I have come accross. I wonder though if you demonstrate why Trump/Republicans are so busy winning? I had to listen/watch this video 3 times to understand what you where saying/explaining. The Trumptards are targeting the kind of person who only wants a quick answer to questions. Is there a way of condencing your information? A lot of people only need/want soundbites. It pains me to ask you this but I have a sickening feeling that Trump could just be beginning to create a Trump dynasty in the Whithouse. Liberals will not stop him by producing essays/in depth analysis. This adminstration could have a clear run for the forseeable future if the FBI can not provide irrefutable evidence of collusion.

So what I get out of this is that Trump is turning the Dem into more of GOP.
