FIRST LOOK: Mercedes-AMG One - 1063hp Hypercar With F1 Engine Is FINALLY Finished! | Top Gear

This is the really very final production version of the 1,000bhp+ Mercedes-AMG One. That’s right, on AMG’s 55th anniversary comes the long-awaited hyper-F1 car for the road. Not a figure of speech, but a fact, because the AMG One famously uses the 1.6-litre turbo hybrid V6 from Hamilton’s F1 car. Well, when Hamilton’s F1 car was fast. AMG worked closely with the F1 bods at Brixworth to build a turbocharged combustion engine with four electric motors: one on the turbo, another on the engine and two driving the front wheels, each able to spin up to 50,000rpm. The whipcrack quick V6 is mounted in the middle, and revs to 11,000rpm – a little shy of Murray’s T.50 and the Aston Martin Valkyrie, but still. Eleven thousand. More F1 tech arrives in the shape of the MGU-K, which harvests surplus exhaust gas energy and stores it in the battery or feeds it straight into the electrified front axle. With everything singing together – MGU-K, MGU-H, front axle motors and engine – the whole thing punches out 1,048bhp. Hilariously, AMG can’t tell us the torque figure because of the “complex drivetrain”. That’s right, the One is too complex for human minds. Estimated performance figures are as follows: 0-62mph in 2.9s, 0-124mph in 7.0s, 0-186mph in 15.6s and a top speed of 219mph. On the other end of the scale, it’s capable of just over 11 miles on battery power alone, while combined emissions stand at 198g/km. And how does this 1,695kg monster look? ‘Muscular’ is how AMG describes it, and there’s no denying its presence. Low, wide with a ‘wasp’ waist designed for optimum aero efficiency, it’s said to generate downforce from as little as 31mph. Which should make the drive to your weekly shop very entertaining. It’s been a long time coming, but has the wait been worth it? We sent Top Gear Magazine’s Jack Rix to find out…

Currently cross-shopping between this car and a 2006 Volvo V70. Very useful to get an in-depth look so I can make my decision a little better.

I want to hear clarkson talk about it. About how its got more power than a sun, and is as slippery as an eel coated in vegetable oil, a powertrain as complicated as an interstellar spaceship's.

One thing I did read about the AMG one was, after 30k miles the engine requires a rebuild. I'm amazed they can get a road version of an F1 engine to last that long!

I don't think there's been a time in history when so many wildly different strategies have been used to compete for the title of ultimate production car. This using F1 tech, the Valkyrie's big V12, the T.50 using fans, the Evija going full EV... we're going to have some amazing group tests over the next few years.

As has already been said, the F1 drivers are always complaining that the safety car is too slow… I think this may solve the problem 🏁🏁

This just makes Gordon Murray look even more like a genius

Imagine this as the safety car in f1 😮

Looks alright, but I think I'll stick with my current beast and dream car. A beautiful Peugeot 306 HDI estate, simply an amazing car and unlike a flashy new Merc. Has a unique weight distribution technology, so the faster it goes the more bits fall off to save on weight.

This reminds me of the LFA. Designed to bring F1 tech to the road, overbudget, delivered too late, everyone complaining about the spec sheet on launch. Well, I expect once they stop selling them people will put it up on a pedestal just like they did with the Toyota.

Massive massive respect to Mercedes for attempting and being successful for putting an F1 engine in a car and making it available to (some) people.
They should do a public tour for all F1 fans around the world, its a public service for us.

"We somehow strapped a catalytic converter to an F1 car and made it push 1000hp"
The Germans are madlads

That "F1 engine into a road car" question was answered for me by the guy in Manchester who managed to shove a Cosworth V8 into a Mk1 Escort in the early 80's . . . It snorted and popped, danced at standstill, and vanished down Wilbraham Road like something from a science fiction film . . .

Gotta love the A Class indicator stalks in a 2.5m car.

This is what will make the future AMG cars in a new level. I still remember when Porsche came up with the 918 and how inheritance was great throughout their race cars after.

It's a lot heavier than I thought it would be

So the Aston Martin Valkyrie weighs substantially less, makes more power, and sounds far better. I know which one I’d choose, although most owners are probably getting both.

I’m pretty sure one of the senior engineers is quoted as saying if they knew how difficult the project was going to be they wouldn’t have attempted it. Still, hats off to AMG for getting it done.

T50 weighs 986kg. This weighs 1700kg; shockingly over 700 kg more. Regardless of the power differential, the AMG One is just too heavy.

And now we finally wanna see it being driven the way it was intended to
