How to sew the bag from velvet fabric? It is the simple way to make the bag from scratch by own hands. This bag design is good for daily life or sport going and traveling. This velvet bag has the compact size and handles for comfort carring. The bag has one zipper pocket inside and two pockets outside. EDIT: I'm back to say I finished my bag and although it took a little longer to make than I anticipated ( OK... a lot longer lol ) it was a fun and easy project to make. I used a 1cm seam allowance on it all and it worked well. The finished bag measures at 20cm high, 28cm long and 10cm wide.

* The 17cm x 19cm front pocket measurements were right.
* For my inner zippered pocket I cut my fabric at 22cm x 30cm which made the finished pocket 20cm wide by 14cm deep.
* For the sides I curved my grid from the centre 6cm line at the top to the bottom of the 6cm square at the sides, and at the bottom 2cm out and 2cm up. I clipped them in and hand basted like she did in the video before machine stitching. Don't skip this step and do make sure you mark the 4 points to make sure the corduroy lines stay straight. Also, a heads that there is quite some bulk getting over some of these seams ( I used a thick interfacing ). My vintage machine handled it like a pro but if your machine struggles with bulk, just be forewarned and take it easy through those parts.
* The only thing I'd have done differently was not use interfacing in the handles ( or perhaps I just used the wrong one ).

For those wanting the measurements to cut out your pieces, I am not the creator of this video or bag but the measurements are mostly all there in the video. For the ones that are not, I'm about to make my first one and I'll come back to update if there is a change from what I think they are, but this is what I have worked the ones not listed out to be and I am assuming all seam allowances are 1cm, but could be 1.5cm:

* Cut the front pocket pieces ( front fabric, lining fabric and interfacings ) at 17cm high by 19cm long.
* For the side pieces of the bag use metric grid paper if you have it, or draw up your own if you don't, a 1cm grid page of 12cm x 20 cm and follow her curves to get the right size and shape. It looks like she has started the top on the 6cm line then curved down to the bottom of the side 6cm line, then the bottom ones are about 1.5cm to 2cm high and wide but I need to double check this one.
* The inner pocket in the bag lining just needs to fit comfortably in there so you can make it any size you want, just make it a size that fits well.
It's always best to do a cheap muslin of any project first before cutting into your good fabric. I'll let you all know how I go with the measurements I'm using. I'll be starting out with a 1cm seam allowance.
