Medications
Depressive Disorders / Antidepressants are in class of drugs known as (SSRIs)
Prozac (Fluoxetine)
Celexa (Citalopram)
Zoloft (Sertraline) *** Also used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder
Lexapro (Escitalopram)
Paxil (Paroxetine)
Luvox (Fluvoxamine)
Anxiety Disorders /Antianxiety medications belong to a class of drugs known as Benzodiazepines
Valium (Diazepam)
Xanax (Alprazolam)
Ativan (Lorazepam)
Klonopin (Clonazepam)
Mood Disorders / Mood stabilizers
Lithium
Depakote (Divalproex Sodium)
Lamictal (Lamotragine)
Schizophrenia / Anti-psychotic medications
Haldol (Haloperidol)
Thorazine (Chlorpromazine)
Seroquel (Quitiapine)
Risperdal (Risperidone)
Zyprexa (Olanzapine)
Clozaril (Clozapine)
Abilify (Aripiprazole) is an antipsychotic medication that can also be used as an “add-on” medication in conjunction with another medication for depression, Bipolar Disorder, and Schizophrenia when the other medication is not enough.
*Tardive Dyskinesia is a possible side-effect of long term use from ant-psychotic medications
Tardive Dyskinesia causes involuntary face and body movements of your tongue, lips, face, blinking waving your arms, etc. *
ADHD
Ritalin/Concerta (Methylphenidate) // Make a flash card for Concerta as well
Adderall (Amphetamine)
Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine)
Memorize the medications for ADHD, Abilify (Aripiprazole), and the other 2 A’s (Alprazolam and Ativan) are for anxiety. By doing this, you know that if a medication begins with A that you didn’t fully memorize, it’s most likely an anxiety medication.
Memorize – PF Pram = Depressive Disorder
VXK Pam = Anxiety Disorder
*The testing site provides us with something to write on so I recommend writing the shortcuts down as soon as you’re able to*
Memorize “PF Pram” = Depressive Disorder
Any medication that starts with P, F, or ends with “pram” = Depressive disorder
