Budweiser Clydesdales '9/11 Tribute' Ad: Super Bowl 2011

*SCRIPT*

In an idyllic rural setting, a team of eight horses pull an antique red wagon out of a vintage barn. There are two uniformed riders on the wagon.

A close-up reveals that these horses are stunningly beautiful Clydesdales.

Next, a transition montage shows the horses walking and trotting along a green pasture, then along the cobblestone road of a small town, and then across the Brooklyn Bridge. Beyond the bridge, the Clydesdales reach a field where skyscrapers can be seen in the distant background. 

The distant skyline becomes recognizable as New York. The team of horses become recognizable as the Budweiser Clydesdales.

With the Statue of Liberty now in the background, the Budweiser Clydesdales stop walking and begin to bow their heads in unison.  A wider camera angle then shows "Budweiser" painted on the side of the beer wagon. Wistful background music reaches its emotional crescendo.

Aired Only once at the request of the Budweiser company out of respect for 9/11 because they didnt want to make a profit from it or the tragedy of 9/11.

Working at AB's in-house agency at the time, we got to preview all the spots a few days before the game. When this one played, the room was absolutely silent, until the Clydesdales knelt...then the sobs started. (And they still do.)

This is one of those special commercials.
It wasn’t anything big, fancy, and had no words.
But it was done with class and respect that even today a lot of us come back to visit around this time of year.
22 years today. I was only a baby when it happened. But the older I get the more I realize how this impacted everyone. I asked my 85yo boss at the time where he was when it happened. And he remembered everything from his clothes that day, his breakfast, where he sat, etc.
my dad till this day still gets choked up about. He was on his way up to ground zero with his EMT and fire company. (Selfishly I’m glad he didn’t go because how dangerous is was.)

If there was one thing I wish I was able to experience from that day (especially now) would have to be the day after 9/11. We weren’t fighting over politics, race, etc. we were happy to be alive and to be Americans..
