1. It's really hard
2. It"s ok to get lower grades than expected - don't be disheartened
3. You will need many folders + be organised (a day folder + seperate subject folders )
4. You will never have a lot of free time
5. Use your frees to do hw / revision - don't waste them
6. Write notes / flashcards / mindmaps after every lesson so you don't fall behind
7. Revise for all mini-tests
8. Talk to your teachers if you need help etc. (don't put it off if you don't understand something)
9. It's ok if your friendship groups change
10. You will grow a lot as a person in yr 12

I agree with all of these (as someone who's just had their year 13 cut short by covid) :) Some other things that helped me are -
1. Look over the work before the lesson so you at least know what new keywords and stuff mean and you already know the simple concepts so you can just focus on understanding the hard stuff

2. It's kind of annoying, but revise your year 12 content in the summer holidays between year 12 and 13. Year 12 to year 13 is another big step and I found that my teachers just kind of assumed all year 12 knowledge going into year 13. Be aware that year 13 content is a lot harder than year 12

3. If you're doing an EPQ, if possible get it done before the start of year 13. I left mine until when it was due in, Christmas of year 13, and it was an absolute nightmare because I was also super busy with mocks and uni interviews. I ended up printing it about 2 hours before it was due in

Bonus medicine application tips -
4. Do the UCAT as early as possible. I'd definitely recommend getting it done before the end of the summer holidays, because you don't want it hanging over you as you adapt to the increased pressure of year 13. Also make sure you do plenty of practice in timed conditions. It's the timing, not the actual questions, that makes the UCAT difficult

5. Apply to medical schools that suit your profile and that you actually stand a chance of getting an interview at. Don't apply to a medical school that's said they only invite the top UCAT scorers to interview if your UCAT score isn't great. Go for one that's more GCSE or personal statement focused :) If you do get a bad UCAT score, don't panic. There a good few medical schools that don't use it that much

I hope this is helpful to someone out there :)

I’m a year 11 who’s just finished his GCSE’s and with grafting from all this channels advice I can happily say whatever grades I will get will be fully deserved. The advice for college was a huge eye opener, thank you Jade
