What if France Settled its American Colonies | FAN SCENARIO

Показать описание
After the discovery of the New World in 1492 by Christopher Columbus, pretty much every major European power began colonizing the continent, including France. But, instead of creating mass settlements in their colony of New France, the French instead just focused on beavers. So, as a result New France was extremely underpopulated, and, after the French and Indian War, New France was carved up by Britain and Spain. But, what if, in an alternate timeline, France had settled their colonies in America, and developed them into a true "New France"? Enjoy!

France wasn't completely kicked out of North America, It was allowed to keep two small islands off the coast of Newfoundland that it still controls today

I think New France could have a lot easier time working with the Natives and integrating them if they had more settlers as well. They did a much better job treating the Natives as equals. The amount of allies they had in the French and Indian War proves that.

You completely ignored the Acadiens who built the first permanent French settlements in what became Nova Scotia. The first Acadiens (men and women) arrived before the English in Jamestown. Acadiens were not beaver hunters. They were farmers and fishermen who started families built towns and villages but were ultimately destroyed by the British in a genocide.

One thing. Russia would not have taken cascadia, that just isnt happening. They were already busy with Siberia, and France and Britian would not tolerate further russian expansion into territory they think is valuable. Likely, it’s split between England and France, with the british having a strange border in the area.

Very nice ! There is a lot of potentiel for an alternate history book with that man :O ! As a Québécois I liked the video about what different could have happened . On the same subject you could say huguenots went in Québec first and populated more or the king escaped france to go in New-France too while France kept going by her side also... Anyway thanks it was nice

5:20 It’s very interesting what you said about the Huguenots and Enlightened philosophers. Britain had hugely settled colonies because they were treated like dumping grounds. People who didn’t want to live in Britain (or could not live in Britain) went to live in the colonies. Religious minorities, prisoners, explorers/merchants, and more lived in the colonies. It’s cool to think that settled French colonies would do the same. What you said about Enlightenment thinkers made me wonder if Enlightenment thinkers being encouraged or forced to live in British North America resulted the American Revolution

4:53 What? I don’t understand, why would America not revolt? Fear of the French? Why would they be scared of them? France was a huge ally to Revolutionary America in our timeline.

A few thoughts:
- France could very well win the Seven Years War here (on the american theatre), in our timeline it was already a close call and Britain almost asked for peace at one point because they didn't see how their position could improve.
- The Revolution would probably happen anyway in one form or another, the country was too rotten.
- If America remains under British control, slavery would continue (at least in North America) because of the massive Southern slavery lobby.
- French and British colonies in North America would get to independence eventually sometime in the 19th century.
- After independence, both countries would eventually develop friendly relations as there are no lands left to grab and they both become stable democracies.
- With such a large Huguenot presence Canada would probably be more tolerant of religious minorities while British America would certainly be very anti-Catholic due to francophobia. So more oppressed groups would migrate to French Canada instead of British America like in our timeline.
- Native Americans would have it way worse than in our timeline's French Canada; relations with the French were good because they weren't that many, here with a larger influx of immigrants wars with the natives would be more common.

5:52 I highly doubt that France would let Louisiana fall, it would be too valuable. It would be more south as well as near the Caribbean, allowing cash crops like tobacco and sugar to be grown and easy access to the Caribbean (most importantly, easy connections with French Caribbean colonies). Controlling the mouth of the Mississippi would also be hugely important. I think France would would put more effort into holding Louisiana than Canada. Remember, in our timeline France gave up their mainland North American possessions to Britain but kept their Caribbean colonies. Canada wasn’t as profitable when compared to French Caribbean possessions due to cash crops.

Short answer: World would be more peaceful. French latin mindset is less predatory than english americans one IMO. Not that they did not colonize other countries too, but they did not have the same approach and goals, French tried cohabitation, while english just want to replace local culture by their own.
Yeah I know pure dumb speculation, but I hate american imperialism, it never stopped and is a plague to our world to these days.
