Privacy is an Illusion

The idea of complete privacy is an illusion. If you participate in social media sites, use credit cards, have a bank account then your personal information is out there. This blog is about some of my thoughts on the subject. Please keep in mind it is not possible to ad-lib completely accurately my thoughts during a 5-6 min vlog so I'm kinda all over the place with this.

I've been meaning to watch this video since I got the notification and I'm glad I finally got around to it. You did a great job with this buddy! I got rid of my facebook account about 3 years ago, not because of the privacy issues although that was something that bugged me. I just hate facebook. I do display my face, my full name, my street address, hell even my front door! I have nothing to hide. As you say if they want it they will get it! so why fight it? Great vid mate! Chris.

I had heard in one of the reports on the whole thing that Snowden had said he took the job because he wanted to uncover the government spying on it's citizens. As to the truth of the matter I think he needs his day in court...

Yeah it's amazing how much info is out there. It's almost impossible to be completely private.

Snowden deserves his day in court, that is if we can pry him out of Russia. As to whether he put lives at risk, that is hard to say for certain. He did sign a document saying he would not disclose Gov info under penalty of law and what he disclosed was not just that the gov was spying but details on exactly how.

The one main thing I keep private is where I work. The company has strict rules (mostly due to gov regulations) on what can be said on social media sites if we announce where we work. :D

Thanks. Yeah it's not really news that they are spying on us. But what Snowden did is reveal to everyone (including our enemies) exactly how it's being done. Then he runs to Chine, then Russia. Gotta wonder about his motives.

So true. If people wanted you bad enough, they could find you.

I commend your honesty and for boldly stating your views. I have my own opinions on why he sold us out, but if he truly believed in his cause he should not have ran. Just my opinion.

That's about all you can really do is make it more difficult. If there is someone who is determined though with some time and a little luck they could track you down. It's kinda like locks on a door. It keeps most people out but won't keep out someone who is determined. :D

I protect as much personal information as possible but am under no illusion that I could be found if they really wanted to, just not going to make it easy.

As long as I've been watching motovloggers, I don't think it's ever crossed my mind to delve that deeply in to finding out who they are. Personally I don't show my face for not wanting to be recognised and pointed out in my local area. But I'm under no illusion that nobody in the area knows where I live, which is why I keep some things private until after the fact. e.g That I went to Ireland last week and left the bikes potentially unguarded in my garage.

I also think that everything you have is out there. It's just a matter if how hard someone is willing to work to obtain your data.

I don't know. If someone wanted to I'm sure there are enough things out there that eventually it would link to a photo of you. If not on your Facebook page them maybe on one of your friend's (or their friend's) page. Yeah to show or not show your face is a personal choice. I decided it didn't matter back when I started vlogging. :D

Totally agree on the privacy issue. There is no privacy, period. Snowden, don't have enough information to comment on that. I have a question however, what editing software do you use, if you don't mind giving away your secrets?! lol

Agreed and he certainly should not have run to communist countries if he believed he was doing something that was right.

Agree with you on most parts. The government can definitely find out every aspect of your 'private' life quite easily. Though from the gen public I could see hiding some things. That all being said, I kinda disagree on Snowden...not that when he did was legal, it wasn't, and it was treason. Though I put it in the same book as any good coup. Might be illegal (very illegal), but it's a good thing to do as it's a wake up call to many. It's def. sad that many people were surprised about it :(.

What kind of ride are you on. I know it's a honda, but what kind?

I can't help wonder about Snowden's motivations. He claims to be a patriot and was doing this to show how the gov is abusing American rights. But the SOB ran to China, then to Russia. Was he working for them all along to steal US secrets or is he just a hypocrite? You don't shout for freedom then run to a commie country for shelter. He should have stayed here if he really was fighting for US rights.

Yep. Unfortunately for most of us it is pretty easy to get quite a lot of info about us. :D

No no, I realise you were making a point mate, I didn't take any offence. Like I say, I am under no illusion that just because I don't show my face that I have complete and total anonymity.
