How Powerful Is Singapore Military?

Singapore officially the Republic of Singapore is a sovereign island country in maritime Southeast Asia. Singapore's total nominal GDP is around US$425 billion. The country is protected by Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). A military component of the Ministry of Defence.

Singapore Armed Forces consist of three branches: the Singapore Army, the Republic of Singapore Navy, and the Republic of Singapore Air Force. SAR-21 is the standard issue rifle of the Singapore Armed Forces, which will be replaced by BR-18. The Defence budget is around US$15 billion. According to the 2022 global firepower index, Singapore is ranked 42 out of 142 countries considered for the annual GFP review.

The Singapore Army is the land service branch of the Singapore Armed Forces. It is the largest of the three services. The Motto of the Singapore Army is "Ready, Decisive, Respected".

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) is the naval service branch of the Singapore Armed Forces. The Motto of the Singapore Navy is "Beyond Horizons".

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) is the aerial service branch of the Singapore Armed Forces. The Motto of the Singapore Air force is "Above All".

Singapore Armed Forces have 4 special force units.

The Singapore Armed Forces Commando Formation or SAF Commando Formation is the special operations formation of the Singapore Armed Forces. The motto is "For Honour and Glory".

The Special Operations Force (SOF) is the special operations unit of the Singapore Army. The motto is "We Dare".

The Naval Diving Unit (NDU) is the special operations unit of the Republic of Singapore Navy. The motto "Nothing Stands In Our Way".

The Special Operations Task Force (SOTF) is a joint special operations unit of the Singapore Armed Forces. The motto is "When No One Else Can".

We may currently not know what the actual capability of armed forces around the world looks like as most have not been blown in a full-scale war in a long while. Some might say we are strong only in imagination, but other countries around us are also hard to actually tell their full combat strength. Who knows, maybe in a real war, we will drop our weapons and desert or our enemies will do so. I hope that the illusion of strength will continue. I wish there will be no conflict. It is better to have an illusion then no illusion.

Singapore is not in the vicinity of Thailand, Vietnam but they are in an area where their neighbors have egos as big as coconuts. Some of them have turn out to be bullies. They look at the map and think well it is only a red dot. If they zoom in, they will think that it will be easy to take care of with a few artillery rounds. Well, with the F35B VTOL, it should also be a short trip to the neighboring countries. With air refueling KC135s constantly on patrol and AWACS, counterstrikes will be swift and decisive. An unknown power or force multiplier is the submarine fleet. While attacking Singapore, make sure you don't hit any US surface ships or aircraft carrier in dock or under maintenance.

The entire special forces segment is wrong. Singapore only has 3 special forces. Special Operations Task Force (SOTF), Special Operations Force (SOF), and Naval Diving Unit Special Warfare Group (NDU SWG). The 1st commando battalion is not and never will considered as special forces. They are elite, but most are National serviceman (NS aka conscripts) and they wont be trained in military freefall

Being technologically advanced doesnt mean powerful. Singapore has been buying assets, not manufacturing them.
Singapore doesn't have a weapons industry. The reason why it is not even as powerful as people may think.
If you think for once that ST Engineering is the weapons industry, you should slap yourself in the face twice.
We are talking about developing the country's very own nuclear arsenal stash, or 6th gen fighter jets, or long-range missile systems, or anti-jamming communication devices.
Not just some support vehicle to transport soldiers from NTUC Fairprice to Cookhouses.

Unless Singapore starts buying 200 units of F35. Otherwise, Singapore isn't even serious about defending.
Defending against small scale skirmish? Sure.
