Faith is a personal choice. Let the family get on with their lives.

There should be no more debate about the definition or interpretation of the law on unilateral conversion, as the Federal Court had ruled in 2018 that both parents of a child must consent to the conversion of a child’s religion.
Perhaps nothing better illustrates the nexus between the religious establishment and government agencies than the case of Indira Gandhi – another mother whose children vanished mysteriously after they were converted in 2009.
Though the highest court in the land ruled in her favor, gave her full custody, and declared the conversion of her three children null and void.

There should be fairness in distributing financial aid to those of islamic faith. Here, they ask 70 year old pak cik and 68 year old mak cik to go to work and refuse financial assistance. But, for Loh's case, they are throwing themselves onto it.

Tambahan pula, tiada istilah perbahasan agama.

Tolong jangang Malu Sendiri Asri.(“Kaduk naik junjung.”)

Wahai rakyat Malaysia.. Dlm kes keluarga Loh, kita sepatutnya membiarkan anak2 yg berkaitan utk mempunyai fikiran waras utk mereka memilih agama Islam atau agama asal setelah mereka besar dewasa..

Jangang malu sendiri.

It’s becoming an all too familiar story: a desperate mother trying to regain custody of her children from the clutches of an overzealous, overbearing religious establishment. It’s no longer just about the illegal and unethical conversion of minors; it’s about the refusal of the religious establishment to respect the laws of the land.

The facts of the case are clear enough. In a 2018 landmark decision, Malaysia’s Federal Court – the highest court in the land – unanimously ruled that the consent of both parents is required for the conversion of minors. Religious authorities were served notice in no uncertain terms that they may NOT convert minors without the consent of both parents.

Specious arguments like those put forward by the Mufti of Perlis that the children (of Mrs. Loh Siew Hong, in this case) did not want to go with their mother or that state law permits unilateral conversion are entirely irrelevant. As a statement by G25, a group of influential Malays, pointed out, “conversion of children without the consent of both parents [is] unconstitutional and invalid.
To allow this unlawful separation and conversion to continue is a travesty of justice and a violation of our Federal Constitution and the orders of the Courts.”
Malaysia at the Mercy of the Divine Bureaucracy, They get away with such behavior because they know that they can count on the government to look the other way. They have been so successful in co-opting the machinery of government behind them that they have become untouchable.
Notice, for example, how quickly the authorities moved to investigated Penang Deputy Chief Minister P. Ramasamy for criticizing the religious establishment but have made no move to investigate those who carried out the illegal conversions in the first place.

Back to Perak, since the death of the last mufti 10 months ago no new mufti has been appointed.

And here is the story - it does not seem that HRH the Sultan of Perak is in any hurry to appoint another Mufti. Talk is the Sultan does have capable people who are advising him on religious matters in the State. Plus the entire Jabatan Agama Islam Negeri Perak is also at the Sultan's disposal.

May I congratulate His Royal Highness the Sultan on his wisdom in ruling over Perak - tanahair ku, where I was born and raised. Daulat Tuanku.
So do we need Muftis? The official person and role of a Mufti is simply an exercise in 'men-jabatankan agama' or 'bureaucratising religion'.

The opinion of a Mufti does not constitute religious law. In Pakistan you can attend a two year course of study at numerous religious schools (some without water or electricity) after which they will award you a 'Mufti' certificate. You can then call yourself a certified "mufti". But that does not give you the right to make new religious laws.

But that is not the case in Malaysia. In Malaysia religion is under the jurisdiction of the States - under the Sultans and Rulers. Religion is defined by the political boundaries of the State.
Technically the Sultan has the final say on any religious matter within his State - including making religious rulings which become part of religious laws within his State.

Once gazetted, any breach of a fatwa is a criminal offence punishable by fines, whipping and jail terms.
But not always. In Selangor, Kedah and Perlis a fatwa was gazetted that made smoking haram and a religious offence (since 1995). But so many people smoke in those States and no one has been punished yet.

The administrative mechanism by which such religious rulings are transformed into State laws is the Pejabat Mufti or Mufti's Office. It is the Pejabat Mufti which usually floats some new religious ruling, which are then presented to the State Legislature for its approval. Once approved and gazetted it becomes part of State Law.

The Mufti may also come up with his own opinions or fatwas on certain issues which still have to go through the same process - consent of the Ruler, approval by the State Legislature and publishing in the official State gazette

.Since the Mufti is appointed at the sole discretion of the Sultan, the pejabat Mufti therefore carries the force of a Royal appointment.

So do we need Muftis? No we do not. Let me explain. Perak has functioned quite well for 10 months now without a mufti.

The reason being religious matters in a State are under the jurisdiction of the Sultan and the Rulers.

How many Muslim couples in Malaysia get divorced each year?
In 2012, a whopping 56, 760 divorces were recorded, which is equivalent to a marriage breaking down every 10 minutes. According to statistics provided by the Syariah Judiciary Department Malaysia (JKSM), the number of Muslim couples getting divorced rose by 2.3 times from 20, 916 in 2004 to 47, 740 in 2012, and to 49, 311 last year
.Mufti Perlis Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, please look at the problems, the Muslim children have
to undergo, solve these issues. These children need help. Not Loh children's.(Perlis council to provide education and financial aid, ensure Loh’s children follow the Islamic faith)

Tuan-Tuan, apa lagi Tuan-Tuan Mau?
Inilah konsep Ketuanan Melayu.
