Hey, at all the angry American house moms complaining about how crazy Marie Kondo is: She's Japanese. A lot of what she's saying is based on specific notions inherent to Japanese culture. This video is a rough translation of what she's actually saying, because American English doesn't have an actual equivalent for most of these concepts. Japanese culture on the whole values community, gratefulness, minimalism, and social harmony in a way that just doesn't make sense to most Americans. So instead of being defensive and hateful, recognize that your culture is not her culture, and that those differences aren't a bad thing. And read the damn book before you start talking about how crazy she is.

As an American the sentiments expressed are weird, BUT the method is amazing and I actually do feel contentment and joy when I open my drawers and see everything perfectly folded and aligned. I think Americans need to start embracing the way the rest of the world sees life... The American way is stressful and often sad.

I was pretty surprised by how aesthetically pleasing and efficient this method was. I hate folding laundry and so it's absolutely not fun for me to do but this makes things a lot easier to find and saves a lot more space.

You can tell she LOVES it by how her eyes light up each time she finishes

I bought one of her books and I can say as silly as it seems to thank your things for their service to you it really is a neat experience. You don't feel so bad about throwing things away and you also respect the things you keep alot more, hence the concept of no relapse.

I have 2 children and Lyme Disease and I can't tell you how many times my house was destroyed due to being too tired to function. Teach your kids as well because let me tell you, it truly is amazing how life changes when you are all on the same page.

Having kids is no excuse. I have 3, the youngest is 1 and I work as well. I think that the more organized you can be, the least time you waste trying to find things. It does not take that much to change to this method. I love it!! And everything looks so tidy! Thank you Marie for the inspiration!

just got off an awful day at work. My boss had me to a point where I was split between crying and soldiering my way through. I love watching Marie's videos just to relax and feel a little better.

Wow!! My mom taught me this from I was old enough to start doing laundry(10) minus the talking to the fabric part. I still fold my clothing this way. It really doesn't cause much wrinkles at all. She's making a ton of money showing people the basics of being neat and organized. Good for her! haha...

I've bought both of her books and love her method. If you take the time to read and think her ideas over, you won't relapse.

Marie is my inspiration! I can't believe how neatly she folds clothing items. Folding has been my biggest challenge in the tidying process.

So interesting to watch. I will give it try.. I have to fold the clothes anyway! I like the idea of being able to see each item in a drawer- no digging around.
I will take what works for me and leave what doesn't.
It's all good!
