2023 Mac Mini M2; is 8GB or RAM enough for non professional use? Results may surprise you!

Subscriber requests for an 8GB RAM test on my new 2023 Mac Mini M2 (base model). Real world productivity test for non-professionals. 20+ browser tabs open, 10+ apps, video running, music, etc.

only Tim you should get 8gb is if your getting a base Mac mini, because education pricing for the base is like $500, but it becomes 700$ with ram upgrade which isn't that worth it

Not too bad. And you can always buy an external drive in the future to conserve SSD space for the swap memory. Sort of like a workaround for not being able to buy RAM.

You are using single core programs. It's when you get to multicore and memory saturation that pushes a system.

Try again with the storage almost full. Sometimes my m1 MacBook chugs and stutters. The memory is it’s biggest limitation.

i'm using Mac mini m2 16GB RAM 256 GB SSD variant .. with just one youtube 4k playback on safari and nothing else opened .it's using 6.5GB memory . i don't understand why there is such big difference between 8GB and 16GB model .. is this normal ? btw i can see your activity monitor, it's using around 4GB swap memory ..in my case it's zero.. can you enlighten me regarding this ?

8GB will make the ssd last less, people doesnt know that mac os will use more than 8GB and the rest will be usrd on ssd wearing down faster

Hello. Please confirm: I will use it to edit a 2-minute video every 2 or 3 days, and I hardly ever use Google Chrome, I do use a lot of photo editing and some Chess analysis (lots of CPU). Just want to point out your memory is already saturated and the system is using 3.5 GB swap memory in SSD. It is good as user, you don’t see any degradation in experience, but from system utilisation perspective, the RAM is saturated and I will stay away from base model! (I sold mine and got a 16gb M1 because I can’t stand that! That’s just me!)

do m1 macmini also have the same problem with 8 gb 256 model?Also can i use heavy editing on da vinchi resolve or FCX at 1080p FOR MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL OPENING without any issues with adding 100+layers on m1 macmini?I m purposely not buying m2 as lots and lots of youtubers confirmed they have made changes to m2 mac mini ssds they have slowed the read and write speed to 1000 mbps for base model and 3000 and upper speeds for higher variants.Some youtubers even saying to buy m1 over m2 coz of ssd
