Bok fan here. In my view I dont think rankings really matter especially the top 3 as its fairly even. I just find it funny when people say "but we are ranked number 1 so we must be the best team". These are the same people who say they dont care about rankings when their team isnt number 1. Unfortunately rugby has a lot of two faced rugby fans. Fact.

Nice analysis.
I checked the math method to calculate the ranking, it is very complicated and they really made an effort to make it fair, but in my opinion there is a discrepancy: the winning team gets some bonus decimal points for winning by 15 points or more but the losing team never gets anything even for losing by a single point, to be coherent it should be either eliminated the bonus for the wide margin or there should be some little consolation point for narrow defeats.

Rankings are fine - pretty accurately reflect the status of all the sides. Nice to see Italy doing better, and the Pacific Island sides mostly hanging in. Sorry to seeJapan on the slide, and wonder how much of it is Eddie's fault.

I played some sevens back in the day; it was fun, but it wasn't Rugby. Don't care at all about the Olympics 7's tournament, and wish the quality players 7's sucks away from full 15-a-side Rugby were back playing the real thing...

Springboks basically have to win all games against Argentina and Wallabies to stay in #1 spot, and at least get a draw against the All Blacks. Unless Argentina beat New Zealand in their first game. Then things get interesting.

When does NZ play Ireland, that will be the decider for 2nd place on rankings unless the championship gives us an indication but I think the Irish would like to settle a score with NZ.
