I graduated with the Master’s in IT management from WGU - mostly based from your recommendation and I really enjoyed it. I was in the camp of I was in a upper leadership role and I felt like I needed something to add to my resume as I was getting stagnant. It only took me about 3 months because I attacked it but I wouldn’t take it back. Only makes me more employable in the future. Three months were going to pass anyways so might as well have a masters lol

I totally jumped into this Masters program straight from completing my Bachelors. Finishing was the best feeling ever.

Hi Josh! I just want to say how much I appreciate your videos. You give us clean cut answers, opinions based on experience, and so much truth. Thank you for being so in depth and going through to the work to even provide spreadsheets for your videos. I seriously have been binging almost all of your vids the past week haha. You have inspired me to get my degree through WGU through your strategies, when I never thought I’d go back to school. You rock! 🙌🏼

I think with any career, it ultimately doesn't really matter what degree (bachelor's, master's, doctorate, etc.) you have; it's the skills you have that really matter. A degree, cert, etc. is only helpful if it teaches you the skills you need.

Great info as usual👍

My personal opinion it's great if you want to teach in the future. That's what I want to do eventually. I feel certification are more valuable. Thank you again Josh!

In cybersecurity from what I've seen, experience matters most. Then if you got CISSP or OSCP + experience, only sky is the limit. Now for business, that MBA is probably more useful.

Personally, I entered the Bachelors program in cybersec without knowing much about the field back in March 2020. Jump forward to today, I will be done with my bachelors in 4 months. I was admitted into the masters program and about 12 credits from my bachelors would count towards my Masters, so it was a no brainer. Most people harp down on not needing a degree to get into this field, which is valid to a certain point. I feel like this program introduced me to a variety of different options within the field and it also allowed me to become better at communicating thoughts and ideas. For example, should one just decide to go for certifications, great all for it, but you would probably miss out on learning other topics within this field. There are many paths to take and the one I chose allowed me to see that.

I'm already in the B.S. program for Cybersecurity and IA. And to be honest, the fact that you have to get the CEH for the masters degree is a bit of a turn-off for that program. Ask people in the industry what they think of the CEH cert and you'll get some interesting answers.

So I’m almost done with my bachelors in cybersecurity from wgu. I have 5 months of actual “IT” experience working as a data center technician but that’s it. I’m trying to transition into cybersecurity without any experience . Would me jumping straight into masters and getting it worth it? Like would it make me look cooler?😂 or increase the likelihood of me getting my first job with better pay? ( with projects of course)

hey Josh what is your opinion on getting the MBA from WGU then transferring credits and going through coursera to get a master is CS from like the University of Illinois or one of the other really good colleges is because I heard some companies do pay more and may even pay for your school in an I.T company if you wanted to do that after WGU is dual masters way over doing it I remember you once saying something about after your degree it is more about certs and just staying relevant

Short answer: Not really. I was prepping for the GRE at one point until I did some more research into it. I decided the cost isn’t worth it. I was also considering a masters in business or something to round out the computer science degree which is good for management/director roles but it wouldn’t affect salary much. Maybe a 10% bump if that. Not worth the debt imo. Turns out I am still able to make significant salary bumps with each new job. Now If you’re rich or have the desire to learn go for it. Also some schools have combined bachelors masters programs, it’d be more worth it in that case.

I ran into a few peers at my last job actually doing an online PhD in Cyber. Sounds cool but is it worth the money (50-80k?)It’s a personal decision I guess but it’s not needed. Another factor too is the field changes so fast, what you learn in school could be obsolete in 20 years. Tech wise I’d also look into AI, machine learning, automation etc since that’s probably going to be big over the next couple decades.
