Notice how he has to hold the horse's leg at first. Then the horse seem to sort of realize what is going on and just holds the leg in place. Wonderful chemistry with the care taker there.

I'm a welder by trade. My farrier told me once that a farrier is a welder with his brains kicked out lol I have always wanted to go to the school in Oklahoma but I'm too old and don't have time away from work for it. Great job.

From someone who has never done this, how do you know how much to take off before doing damage?

Watching these great videos, makes me think that shoding has been done for a VERY long time the same way. Decades, if not centuries now. I see artistry when I watch this/these videos..I am from a very old farming area in the Tennessee/the South. I still occasionally find the odd horse shoe that managed to get “thrown off” decades, if not centuries, ago, and they look pretty much the same as today’s, usually just more worn. I don’t think much has changed between then and now with regards to the artistry of what a farrier does. Farriers are so important to the wellbeing of horses, ponies, mules, and maybe even the occasional compliant donkey helping to keep a herd of cattle safe.
