1/4-20 drill tap countersink in one bit

Milwaukee tool makes these fantastic drill, tap and countersink bits in a hex-shaft for either your drill or cordless driver. In this example, I use the 1/4-20 size on a brushless drill through 1/4" aluminum plate. I have to turn the torque-limit up to almost the max, but it goes through, then we continue with a small countersink/chamfer to help find the thread. Available at Home Depot.

Thanks. Showed what I wanted to learn about this tap, plus some hints on what to avoid.
Eh, I'm a simple man trying to learn and some youtubers use too expensive equipment, years of skill, and make everything look so easy.
I enjoy seeing some mistakes! I learn.

You might try backing it out by hand. Try using it with a quick change adapter.

I would have deleted this video and tried again, with a drill press. Jesus that was rough lol

You shouldn’t go back and forth or you might break it. Always lubricate the area where u making the hole.

This is why you use a drill press I hope that was your first time ever using any of those tools

Can you use that on 1/2 inch aluminum?

I would have hand twisted the tap portion to make sure the threads were tapped in clean...

I think either a CNC or a drill press would jave made it better

Jeez, I'm not even remotely a DIY-er, but even I managed to drill tap a hole with - I'm sorry to say - way less effort and more grace than you did...

OK, so I get that I should have a lubricating oil, but the point is, for aluminum, it worked without lube, it's an all-in-one tool, and sometimes, you just need to get it done. Quarter-inch plate, no less. Even Mr. Bean can succeed with this tool. 🙂

This has double use.Drill and then reverse to take it out and ready.

A major takeaway seems to be that it ain't rocket science and that the drill & tap bits sure do work 🤷‍♂️ lol
