$10,000(!) BA FIRST CLASS // Amazing Service, Decent Food, Horrifying Bathroom

I try out British Airways' FIRST CLASS product aboard their Boeing 777, my first-ever long-haul first-class (not business class!) flight. I review the service, the seat, the in-flight-entertainment, the food, and the amenities. This award flight was booked through the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Program, costing 70,000 points and $700 in fees and taxes.

For transatlantic crossings BA definitely wins hands down. If you had asked the FA to make your bed, they would have placed a soft mattress topper.

I HAVE TRAVELED ON BA MANY TIMES FROM THE WEST COAST TO LHR AND ON TO EDI. ALL BA FC. I AGREE TOTALLY THE BATTHROOM NEEDS SOME MORE ROOM. I AM 6"4 AND NOT TO MUCH ROOM. HOWEVER ON THE A380 THE FC WASHROOM IS ABOUT THE SAME BUT GO UP TO THE BUSINESS BATHROOM UPSTAIRS AND IT IS BIGGER THAN YOU EVEN NEED. SO WHY NOT MOVE FC TO UPSTAIRS ON THE A380. ENJOYED YOUR REVIEW AND AGREE ON MOST FRONTS

Just some info re the Concorde. It’s actually well maintained and is persevered there. Not quite rotting away. It’s got hydraulic shock absorber braces to keep it raised. It’s been placed there as a permanent exhibit. I really enjoyed this review!

The "swirly" thing is a safety feature (one of many) for the ground crew. When the engine is running it's spinning so fast that you can't see it. So: You see the swirly thing = all good, You can't see the swiry thing = don't go anywhere near it if you want to stay alive.

The swirly thing on the engine is a visibility safety feature for ground staff who might be wearing headsets and can't hear the engine running.

I agree 100% that these airlines need to forgo a seat or two to produce a human-centric bathroom. One where a human can reasonably stand and turn around. Even the massive A380 in business offered only a basic bathroom which is a crime for long-haul service.

Interesting. On our last trip SEA-LHR (2018) we flew Business Class in the hump of the 747 (old configuration seating.) On our trip in November, we'll be in a 787 Business Class in the new configuration seating, which appears to resemble the seating in your 777 First Class, but with some obvious difference. It would be very interesting to see a comparison between the new Business Class and your First Class flight.

I can't comment on the Concorde Room at LHR, since I've never been there, but I found the Galleries Lounge (Business and First) quite nice. While the food was self-service, there was quite a variety of it, plus some nice beverage offerings. As our return flight in November is a morning departure, we'll see how breakfast is in the lounge.

Hi there! great review. I do agree, from your video, the bathroom in the Concorde room doesn't scream "Premium" like emirates first class lounge or Qatar Al Safwa or even "Air Canada Signature suites". And for me, soft product is very important (more than hard product). I am flying BA F from LHR to LAX in 2 days! Looking forward to it and hopefully I get some good FAs like chris.

I fully expect the Contessa to eat daintily with her correct fingers, but no bowl of rosewater to clean them and no servant, with a towel over his shoulder, attending... We truly live at the Endtimes... 🙂

I would say BA first is a good product not as good as Singapore or Emirates but also BA always having either discount fares or award space

AF first class is likely the best (so I hear) but very hard to book for less then 10k Euro (each way)

If paying by cash, I'd rather just fly from London to Paris and then to JFK on Air France La Premiere instead. BA First is basically just an enhanced business class.

Given how often you use your left hand to put your hair away from your face, wouldn’t it be easier just to get it cut? I found that beyond irritating.

First time I’ve looked at one of your vlogs and sadly the last. I imagine you think of yourself as quirky, but it’s a fine line between quirky and bloody annoying. I wish you well, goodbye.
