Department of the Interior Deputy Secretary Tommy Beaudreau traveled to the National Interagency Fire Center Monday.

During his visit, Beaudreau toured the grounds and met with leaders such as Mayor Lauren McClean. This was to highlight the investment plans from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for wildfire resilience, conservation, and ecosystem restoration.

Biden's plan includes investing in the wildland firefighter workforce by raising wages and investing in preventative measures.

“Last year was one of the most severe fire seasons this country has ever experienced," Beaudreau said. "We were at the highest fire preparedness level for 99 days which is a record. Some of this year's outlook is very similar conditions because of drought which is just some of what we're going to anticipate and look ahead for this fire season."
