I was always curious, when he said he's irredeemable...

Did he mean he can never return home because he betrayed them in his eyes or that he can never become an ally of humanity because of everything he did and the fact he is no longer human?

I always thought he meant the former, but looking at this years later, I'm leaning towards the latter now.
