Jesus not only had to die for our sins, but He also had to live for our righteousness. In this brief clip, R.C. Sproul explains what Christ’s active obedience means for His people.

"Jesus not only died..but LIVED for us." what a awesome thought/reality, I feel most people tend to forget that

Before salvation, you are not interested in righteousness, prayer or bible study! Jesus comes in and you are forgiven and receive His righteousness as a gift of Peace! This comforts my soul!

You know, I am a Christian, a follower of Jesus, and have never been taught this in a local church. This is very helpful, thank you, Sir.

Getting this concept changed my life. Although I gave my heart to Jesus in 1st grade I always was worried about being rejected when I sinned. I heard this from R.C.'s series on Justification by Faith Alone when I was age 50 and then it hit me, "Ohhh, it's not MY righteousness that saves me, it's HIS righteousness."

This is the "best kept secret" of the Gospel that so few preachers faithfully preach! The church NEEDS this!

What is His righteousness?

This verse will explain a lot!
1Co 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

So in contrast “righteousness” is the opposite of sin!
So what is sin?
1Jn 3:4 Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

This makes “Righteousness” the “Law”!

Warnings!!!
Luk 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Here Jesus is stating, those who “hear not Moses” (The Law) and the prophets, won’t listen to even, “though one rose from the dead”.

Now look at this! (Jesus speaking)
Mat 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Mat 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Mat 5:11 Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Mat 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

****Pro 28:9 He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Please pray for me. I deliberately rejected Christ for so long, almost a year. I was a professing Christian for about 1 year, and I walked away with the intention to get saved later, and to just enjoy sin for a little while. I
was an apostate and now I am scared that with the amount of light i have been given I might commit the unforgivable sin. My issue is that I don't want to surrender my sin. I know I can't do it without God but I dont want God. I wish I wanted God, but I'm not sure if that feeling is genuine or not. I still love sin and I wish I didnt love my sin, I'm not sure if this feeling is sincere or genuine. I've been praying for God to make me hate my sin, but I'm not sure if those prayers are sincere or genuine. Please pray that my desire for salvation becomes genuine and sincere and that I get saved.

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
When are we washed, sanctified and justified? 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

1John1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We are washed, justified and sanctified all our lives.
1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
He was raised for our justification to intercede for us when we sin all our lives. How can this be Christ's righteousness when it is ours?

He fulfilled the law perfectly, because he was perfect (what else would you expect?), not because he needed to earn and life for our righteousness.

I love Mr Sproul's teaching in so many ways. However I cannot follow this. Luke 18:9-14 points us in a different direction. It is the morning or evening sacrifice. The tax collector says literally "Be the atoning sacrifice for me". Jesus declares, (reckons) him to be in the right with God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says something similar. That Jesus becomes sin for us SO THAT (ἵνα) we become the righteousness. It saddens me to hear Mr Sproul say that Jesus' death was not enough to make us righteous. Having our sins forgiven does not put us back at a zero. When our sins are removed righteousness is "imputed", or reckoned, or counted to us. Jesus' sinless life means that he dies as the spotless lamb. Is this not what Isaiah 53 teaches as well. Sin is removed by one man and many are made righteous. Thus we read" By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many,
For He shall bear their iniquities.". Thank you in any case.
