CLASSIFICATION AND WAYS OF NAMING A SET: Notes

★ UNLOCKING WORD DIFFICULTY ★
↳ Integers: Numbers from negative infinity to positive infinity
↳ Whole Numbers: Starts from 0 to positive infinity
↳ Counting/Natural Numbers: Starts from 1 to positive infinity
↳ Even Numbers: Like Multiples of 2 and Skip Counting by 2
↳ Odd Numbers: Numbers starting from 1, 3, 7, 9...
↳ Prime Numbers: Numbers that only have 1 and theirself as their multiplier. Ex. 2, 3, 5, 7, 11...
↳ Composite Numbers: Numbers that not only have 1 and theirself as their multiplier (basically have more than one multiplier) Ex. 4, 6, 8, 9, 10...

➷ Note: 1 cannot be a PRIME number nor a COMPOSITE number because it is a SPECIAL number

↳ Perfect Squares: Products of numbers multiplied by itself. Ex 1, 4, 9, 16, 25...
↳ Multiples: Like Skip Counting
↳ Factors: Numbers that can be divided without a remainder

★ FINITE AND INFINITE SETS ★
↳ Finite Set: If the number of elements in a given set is a whole number, then it is a finite set. Can be counted.
↳ Ex. A = {letters in the English alphabet}
A = { a, b, c, ..., x, y, z}
Set A is a FINITE SET

↳ Infinite Set: If the number of elements in a given set is _not_ a whole number, then it is an infinite set. Cannot be counted.
↳ Ex. B = {counting numbers}
B = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...}
Set B is an INFINITE SET

➷ Note: "..." is an ellipsis and is used when the elements are too much to list. THIS CANNOT ONLY BE USED IN INFINITE SETS.

★ EQUAL AND EQUIVALENT SETS ★

↳ Equal Set: Two sets are EQUAL only if they _contain exactly the same elements_ .
↳ Set has the same elements and number of elements or cardinality.

↳ Equivalent Set: Two sets are EQUIVALENT only if there is a _one-to-one correspondence between the sets_ .
↳ Set has the same number of elements or cardinality.

➷ Note: If two sets are EQUIVALENT, they _cannot_ be EQUAL. But if two sets are EQUAL, they _can_ be EQUIVALENT.

★ WAYS OF DEFINING A SET★

↳ Roster Method: Listing the elements. If the set does not have a large number of elements.
↳ Ex. A = {red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet}

↳ Set-builder Notation: Describing the elements. If there are too many elements in a set.
↳ Ex. A = {x | x is a color of the rainbow}
Read as: Set A is the set of all x such that x is a color of the rainbow

Thank you po mam ^ 0 ^
