It took me 4 years in Business School to learn that business cannot be learned in school.

Problem with college's is it makes you take all these pre requirements that have nothing to do with your degree. For example I am a business major. I had to take art, music, history, anthropology etc. WASTE OF TIME! Instead they should make them a option instead of making people waste there time. Degrees can be finished faster without the pre requirements and focused more of what the person wants to major in. Now dont get me wrong I have no problem with who ever likes the subjects I mentioned, it should just be optional. Whole school thing is a huge business corporation.

Fields like medical and law are so important and rooted so far back in time that micro credentials will never replace traditional degrees for these, but may replace or compliment continuing education in these fields. Technology being newer relatively speaking and constantly changing makes any non traditional methods of education a possible path to success. Micro credentials being today’s craze and tomorrow’s way in these faster growing sectors.

This is why I am secretly planning on getting a nanodegree. They cost way less. Udacity is great for that. It has nanodegrees in digital marketing and data analytics.

It is now that the higher education systems are changing, which is something really great and now that students don't have to go through the dreadful courses they don't want to do, they can just switch and choose a micro course they'd like to get trained.

Another factor I have noticed: the caliber of instructors or “professors” has gone down drastically over the years. Far too many have just memorized a textbook and dish out assignments. Heaven forbid you have a real world questions that exposes their lack of realworld knowledge or experience by your real world expertise. (Im 50 years old, retired military intel, well traveled and have forgotten more than the instructor had learned having never left the school house going from student to teacher with no break of real-life in between).

Companies should invest in their future employees rather than rejecting candidates just because they lack certain skills. Aptitude and willingness to learn are also important considerations and skills can learnt on the job.

As a man w/ degrees in Econ/Poli Sci/Medicine & some law (before series med issue) ALL basic/foundational can be done online. Medicine you need clinical, obviously & law mock court, writing-up blue-backs, research, etc
