How NASA & Its Partners Plan To Construct Gateway

With Artemis I complete and work on the next few Artemis missions underway, the lunar space station named Gateway is closing in on various deadlines. The station is a massive project being worked on not only by NASA but a few other valuable patterns such as ESA, JAXA, and the CSA. Together they are trying to create the first significant infrastructure surrounding the Moon.

When finished Gateway is expected to have tens of different modules creating a very large station. This being said, Gateway will take a lot of time before it’s finished and will start with only a few modules. In this case, NASA and its partners have a specific plan for the initial station and how it will evolve and adapt over time to facilitate a sustained human presence on the Moon.

In the last couple of months, we have seen more progress on this station as physical modules begin to take shape. With an initial launch date scheduled not long from now in 2024, the race is on to complete and launch the first segments. Here I will go more in-depth into what segments will launch first, what each agency is contributing, what to expect in the future, and more.

Is it too late to launch, after being refurbished, the US Habitation Module? It was supposed to be installed on the ISS, shelved for budget cuts and delays after the Columbia disaster. Could it be rebuilt and launched, if possible? It's now used for ground based life-suppport missions. The ISS is going to only get more crowded. NASA should at least consider the UK Habitat Extension Module.

"10s of different modules" ??

I won't holding my breath waiting for that any time soon
And it ain't easy to or not to do that up there.

…..but it’s way to small! How long will people be stationed there? It looks like a nightmare!

I am all for some kind if station in orbit around the moon.. But the one they have planed and are building is way to inadquit for the future job of building and supporting a lunar base. Well let's actually look at the plans for the station. I have seen several variants. But at the end of the day the habit is not much bigger than a master bedroom in a 2000 square feet house. Unless we add more modules to it, its max capasity is 4. people. All they can do at the moment is act as a relay for nasa a lander. Run a few small exsperaments. And that is it. NASA wants to use starship lunar lander how are they going to refuel transfer building supplies from on ship to the next. If you actually sit down and looking at the plan you will see it is totally a waste of resources. When if we truly wanted to do this we should plan better.

It's so sad that Roscosmos dropped out because of this war. As a russian, it's very sad we won't be seing russian flags on this station soon!
