I found that a cool sounding scale for making harmonies is to take lydian, and lower the second and seventh scale degrees. I don't know if it has a name (though it probably does). I haven't tried it out on guitar yet, but I have written a really cool melody with it.

To make life a bit easier, phrygian dominant is the 2nd mode of romanian scale (both are modes of harmonic minor, 4th and 5th respectively).
Hirajoshi scale is the 3rd mode of asavari scale.
Oriental scale is the 2nd mode of hungarian scale, and byzantine scale is its 5th mode.
All scales are so awesome and cool to jamm with.
