Dear One - Larry Finnegan Cover (with lyrics)

“Dear One” was written and recorded in 1962 by New York-born John Lawrence Finneran, better known under his stage name Larry Finnegan.

A catchy pop song, it made it to number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and went on to top the charts across the Atlantic in markets like Scandinavia, and even down under in Australia and New Zealand.

Quite ironically, and rather sadly, Finnegan was dubbed a “One Hit Wonder”, but this was to proven far from the complete story as the remarkable Larry Finnegan career unfolded …

In 1966, he moved to Sweden where he not only had a string of further hits himself, but wrote and produced a virtual catalogue of chart-toppers for various artists in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, and Holland.

In 1966, he formed his own record label, going on to record songs in German and Swedish (reportedly accent-free), as he became established as a musical icon across Western Europe.

Finnegan moved later to Switzerland, then in 1970, made his way back to the US. Tragically, he was to die just three years later from a brain tumour … and the industry had lost yet another shining light far too early. He was just weeks away from his 35th birthday!
