That dragon was actually visible to the audience. They wore special glasses that allowed them to see the dragon flying over the stadium.

the dragon is part of the game! he's called the elder dragon, either team can kill him for a very powerful buff!

The reason "Legends never die" has such an impact on players, especially those that know the lore, is that these champions became strong through hard work, Ashe and Garen were the old tutorial characters, everyone had them and played them at some point, while Lee Sin was the peak of expertise since his abilities can backfire or win games, everyone who played him felt that progression from rookie to monster.

A few things.

1. The location was Bejing, so the opening group was one popular in china.

2. This was the first year of the Elder Dragon (the dragon we saw flying) in the game. Plus china has a huge dragon history.

3. Chrissy also was in the Pheonix performance as one of the performers. Backbend OP.

For the first video. Lee sin is a blind munk from ionia. Ashe is the archer queen from frielord and garen is garen. Lee is one of leagues most popular characters. Surprised he isnt in many cinematics

The song "Legends never die" became very popular a second time (at least on the internet) after the death of Kobe Bryant, a legendary basketball player.

Ashe (the ice archer) is like the starter character, she is in the old tutorial so feel very acurate put it in this cinematic, 'cause every legend rise from a very similar place

I love how you guys just watched Arcane and went "Hey, this universe is pretty cool, what else does it have to offer?", and after that you just completely immersed yourselves in the Runeterra universe and started watching animations, reacting to champions, etc.

"IT HAS A SHADOW!!" 😂 Made my day! 😃👍 For me Legends never die is a highly underrated song (due to the amount of great songs Riot produces). Not a song I listen to every day, but when I hear it, it always gets me! Great performance by Chrissy and Against the Current ❤️.I like that Riot choses artists from the league community (same with Imagine Dragons and Nicki Taylor) Gives this "one of us feeling".
In 2017 the dragon was just over the top!
We need Anges reactions to Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit soon😂! Always loved these and will rewatch them asap. Thanks for reminding! 😉👍

This particular years opening, was actually probably the most known one.
Firstly for Christina Nicola Costanzas/Against The Current live performance of "Legends Never Die" and her iconic back bend singing.
Secondly, for the LIVE animation of the Eldar Dragon - which some of the actual producers didn't even know was going to happen!
And thirdly, this was the year in which it was a Korea vs Korea final (SKT1 Vs Samsung Galaxy) and was the first time in history, SKT1 lost 3/0 in a World Championship, preventing SKT1 (And the *goat* of League, midlander *Faker* ) from reaching his 4th World title - Which still to this day, he has not gotten since.

That dragon was absolutely crazy when we first saw it. Absolutely nuts. Its also really hard to make augmented reality work that well. Especially if it is indoors as you can see when you have watched the 2020 ceremony. But they absolutely nailed the dragon.

Surprised no one said to you who the other characters are:
Lee Sin is a master on ancient martial arts from Ionia. Though he went blind long time ago he never stopped protecting his homeland and people.
The archer is Ashe. She is the warmother of her clan (The Avarosan) and wields a bow made of True Ice (only a few are born with the ability to manipulate it). She wants to unite every tribe on Freljord and stop the wars between them. There is a comic made in collaboration with Marvel about her, called Ashe: Warmother. You can find it online on the League of Legends Universe site or in physical format at comic stores.

Dragons are objectives in the game, both teams can do it and they give different bonus depending on the dragon (fire, mountain, wind, earth, ocean and hextec)
When a team has 4 dragons, then spawns the most powerful of them : the elder dragon (the one you saw on hologram), he gives massive bonuses to the team killing him (generally guaranteed win)

The elder dragon was added to the game during the season 2017 , that's why he was in the ceremony. I think there are videos explaining how they did the effect if you're interested !
