It may seem strange, but Sonic's iconic catchphrase was actually important historically. People have forgotten that years ago when Sonic was big kids would eat things off the ground all the time. It was a serious problem and Sonic was actually created to convince kids to stop doing it. His sassy attitude and radical appearance were designed specifically to appeal to the young people of the era. His catchphrase seemed nonsensical to kids at first, but after seeing Sonic on TV saying it a million times kids began to listen. Just four years after the introduction of the character instances of kids eating things off the ground dropped by a whopping 23%. It was the most successful campaign to fight the problem. Today, kids only occasionally eat things off the ground, but no where near as often as they used to. Remember, kids! "Don't eat things off the ground!" Oh, and his tie in videogames were ok, I guess.
