This is what I don't understand about people gushing about the 737Max. Its just a dinky narrow body jet. Love those days in the 70's and 80's when domestic flights, especially trans continental were almost always big comfortable wide body jumbo jets.

At 1:14, 1:17, 1:48, and 2:07. BOEING 727's. A unique plane created by Boeing to fill a niche for airlines needing a plane smaller than the 707 to service smaller loads, shorter runways, and on a less costly budget.
It had a retractable staircase in the rear making mobile stairs unnecessary.
My father was once an engineer for Boeing, and was a member of the team designing it. He was assigned a single "ring" of the 727's skeleton.
In 1971, a Northwest Airlines 727 was hijacked for ransom by a man only known as "D.B. Cooper". After forcing the pilots to land, the passengers were released. Northwest Airlines paid the ransom in cash and as demanded by Cooper, provided 3 parachutes. Cooper then made the pilots take off again and fly southeast over Washington State. Soon after, they noticed the warning light indicating the aft staircase door was open. The First Officer went back to investigate, and found it was indeed open, and D.B. Cooper had bailed out with the money.
The FBI never found a trace of Cooper. In 1980, a portion of the extorted cash was found by a boy camping near a river with his family. The rest of the cash remains unfound. Some speculate Cooper most likely died after bailing out in such unsafe conditions. Others believe he escaped and found a new life in another country, and that he lived out his days sitting on a beach, drinking margaritas and with a woman in a bikini at his side.
If he's still alive, he's likely in his mid or late 80's.
There is no statute of limitations for hijacking a plane. If he were to be found today, he could be arrested and tried for the act.
