A quick translation of the french introduction of the concert by Jordi Savall :
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
dear friends.
This concert is dedicated to Caravaggio, of course but also to Montserrat Figueras.
She has been with us for a lot of years. She continues to be among us, with all her spirit.
And as the poet said : she will never die. Because we only die when we are forgotten.
That's why all of these musics that talk about tears are not only tears of sadness but are also tears of joy for all the wonderful years she has been with us.
Thanks a lot."
*Applause*

I fell in love with Jordi Savall's music when I was about 12. Seriously, the fact that he exists to preserve this music and these instruments and styles is a serious gift to the world. It got me through middle school.

World-historical beard right there. Gandalf, David Lewis, and Tirpitz left completely standing.

I am so grateful that there are people in this world who so love this music - & are such talented musicians - to present this beautiful music in which the world may immerse itself. And find peace.

¿Cómo puede haber cretinos que manifiesten disgusto por este EMBLEMA ARTÍSTICO? el maravilloso señor Savall.

My cat Maya wasn't as music trained as some of my previously owned cats.
For years she loved listening to Monserrat Figueras.
Once, I became brave and sung the Lullaby with Monserrat, and Maya tried to join in.
When Monserrat died we were say and listened to her singing more, even commenting you YT that her voice feels like ambrosia, whatever the taste is...
Yesterday my cat Maya died of ovarian cancer.
We listened to Monserrad several weeks ago.
Today, I am listening by myself and remembering both, the admired soprano and a lovely cat, grateful for inspiration and colour in life.

Thank you for posting this gorgeous concert! Jordi Savall is an international treasure. He and the artists with whom he surrounds himself are all extraordinarily gifted, and committed not just to "historically informed performance", but historically IMMERSED performance. Many pieces in this concert were written by Jordi Savall, and if they weren't labeled, one would hardly know that they did not originate in the distant past. His "Deploratio" pieces, sung by their son Ferran Savall, are truly a "bewailing", lamentations for his late collaborator, partner, and wife Montserrat Figueras, to whom this concert is dedicated.

When I wanted to listen to early music, I usually wind up listening to Jordi Savall. His understanding of this music is rarely matched. However, i had never heard Ferran sing before this video. Within two bars, I was automatically transported to North Africa, where I had worked for 4 years. I could see within my mind's eye the sands of the Sahara, the palm trees quietly swaying in the wind and the call to prayers from the nearby mosques carried though the atmosphere. There is such a spirituality in his voice. You just don't want it finish!
