I've had may folk ask if I hold the design copyright to this, so I'd just like to clarify that yes, I do. This is targeted squarely at companies: you'll need to get in touch if you intend to copy my design to sell. For individuals reading this, making one for yourself (or a couple of friends) is fine of course, and encouraged! I just want to let companies know that they can't steal my design for profit without prior arrangement... it's happened before 😄

You're basically Colin Furze's calm and practical brother. Both are genius DIY builders, but extreme opposites in regards to aesthetics and build subjects

Love and appreciate both of you!

your builds are really cool but they also have a polished look that is finished model quality. I would buy this!

Respect! Your mic sound perfect than that expensive mic

There's a lot more to the Neumann beyond the capsule (which is MUCH more expensive just by itself) such as internal tuning, EQ, and other design considerations... but the sound comparison, at least with YT audio quality, is remarkably close. I think that short of engineers who have spent their lives around u87s and the like... you could probably swap them out with a few modifications/tweaks and most people wouldn't think twice. Absolutely incredible for a DIY project at a fraction of the cost.

The Neumann is a lot softer and more natural, but natural isnt always what the ear wants to hear. The diy is pleasing to the ear, not harsh at all; but has a slight pop effect that is stunning to listen to.

This DIY is the first one that I have hope for me to be able to do.😅

Add a small pop filter on that and it would be the best thing ever for narration at a cheap price

The Diy one sounds just as good as the 3000.00 one and might evenbe slitly better. I would build this but I suck at soldering circuts.

I guess I should have read the title because I thought I was going to see a cool sea creature.

Nice work, Matt. Note: soldering isn't welding. Welding melts the workpiece, soldering uses a lower melting point alloy to make the joint.

I have never build any electronic, not even a circuit, but after watching this video, I feel like I will learn it, so that I can build this awesome mic!

Very very good hard work!
Thanks for putting in so much of precious time.
Mic 🎤 is as great as your presentation!
Keep up the great work.

impressive, love the looks and simplicity yet cheap. But 30 dollars???!? how?

Soon the entire house would be redesigned and made out of brass😁😁.
This design is beyond. And honestly, when you compared it with the high end 3000$ microphone, the DIY 30$ sounded better in my opinion. Really powerful!
You are undoubtedly the King of Electronics on YouTube.

If you could sell a build kit for this I would drop 100 dollars for it. This is just to cool

I came here expecting to see someone assembling a microphone kit.

I did not expect to be taught how to build an entire microphone almost completely from scratch, while learning valuable info about electrical and audio interference and how to mitigate them.

This is brilliant.
