When it comes to a rental, finding ways to make it your own can be a bit challenging. Today I wanted to round up by top favorites and some of my least favorite rental friendly upgrades. Almost all of these I have done multiple times and lived with them for years, even documenting the removal process here on the channel. Which peel and stick option is your favorite?

My sons friend did a lot of things to his rental place. The landlord told him to leave everything, as it made the place look nicer. Only to try and keep his deposit for not leaving it how he found it. Good job he recorded the conversation. He won in court, plus extra money 😊

Hi Drew! I wanted to suggest a really nice hack for wallpaper and rental property. My husband was in the military for 26 years and we moved a LOT. One thing I would do that was super nice and easy easy . It’s using fabric as wallpaper and hanging it with Stay-blu liquid starch. As long as pre wash the super dark fabrics, it peals right off when you move and it’s really nice and works great. We did it so so many times. I’d keep and reuse the fabric from home to home and if I fell in love with a certain fabric I’d just get extra to cover future walls.
Please give it a try! Thanks Vicki 😊💕

Use a hair dryer to remove peel&stick stuff -- works great! I removed a peel&stick backsplash from a rental without damaging the wall.

this has been an excellent video. I am well into my 70th year. I wish there were young people like you around to advise me many years ago. My daughter and I have used a lot of your ideas on my apartment and it makes it so much more homey and so personable. Thank you sweetie job well done

Drew, you come across as a genuinely GOOD PERSON. You talk about mental health so easily and I thank you. I’m sure someone needed to hear about better health today.

Love your channel. Just a suggestion for the windows. Try and use pre-cut automotive striping vinyl on the windows instead of electrical tape. It holds up to the heat better and can be removed pretty easily.

Even though I (literally) own my house, I love your rental-friendly ideas! It allows me to try things that aren't permanent!

Comforting to find someone else who deals with travel anxiety! Thank you so much for sharing!❣️
I love the idea of peel and stick floor tile in the bathroom!

I haven't read all the comments, so maybe someone else has suggested this, but I always make my own wallpaper paste with cornstarch and water (heated and cooled). It adheres really well, but when it's time to come off, you can just dampen the wallpaper and then wipe the cornstarch slime 😆off the walls. It does work better however if the walls aren't painted in flat paint. But rentals usually use some level of gloss for durability, so it shouldn't be an issue.

peel and stick wp is removable only if you get the vinyl kind. the paper peel and stick is like regular wal paper. it sticks to the wall and is difficult to remove. be sure it says vinyl.

Just a tip for the contact paper, it will bend around edges better if u apply alittle heat from your blow dryer ! 😊

I have used the Nuwallpaper brand Peel & Stick wallpaper numerous times and it works like a charm in both hanging & removing. I am in a rental & I have been able to really give my home, my style. I also swapped out the living/dining room fixture for an 'Enclosed Ceiling Fan/Light' combo. I also changed out the hardware on both the bathroom & kitchen cabinets. I painted a 'Faux' rug on the bathroom tile. Hello from Canada

Velcro command strips hands down. If something’s too heavy and wants to come down, the Velcro goes not the strip so no damage. Also the Velcro strips are easier to remove and I know 16 large ones can hold a glass shadow box that weighs 8lbs so those suckers are the best

I used those huge white command hooks at my dorm for my curtain rods and they never fell! I hung plants on it and everything! So if you don’t want to drill holes I’d recommend them 😊

Thank you so much for the hint about the command hooks. I just painted my daughters room and didn’t even consider that I would need to wait before using any. Thanks for preventing potential disaster!!😂

I had that same orange counter top! I owned the house and painted with epoxy...& it held up wonderfully.

I've seen people use a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the glue to make the tiles and wallpaper easier to remove.💖

I can’t lie, I’m glad we’ve moved past the days of contact papering everything. I know people don’t have the budget for a full Reno, but I just think it’s so much work, for not a great pay off.

While I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you design your home, I miss the videos you made designing spaces for other people. I hope you'll include this type of video every one in awhile. It's fun seeing different design styles come to life ❤
