Free work : totally agree ! There are NGOs and charities out there who can't afford good designers and could really use your pro bono help ! Everyone wins.

Back in 2018 when I started sharing my work online I think you were the first designer I followed on socials. I have been watching and admiring your content ever since and I can definitely see how much it has evolved! Thank you so much Will

I designed the brand identity and logo for my friend's online business, and it' been a success - a whole real client project for my portfolio, and a new striking brand identity for him - to look more professional and appealing to potential clients.

A lot of people are saying this is bad. I just got my first client because I have been volunteering design work for my local animal shelter. The guy who runs it does photography and wanted a logo and has since asked for a couple flyer designs as well. So I don’t see an issue with free work, if you hate it so much maybe try to volunteer for something you care about or design some stuff for friends

This is probably the best timed upload. I just started to have my friends make me a couple of design briefs for me so I can make a portfolio.

Hey Will,

Could you explain in your next video how to sell resources like gradients or icon packs on your own website? How do you handle payments and downloads, etc.?

Thanks in advance!

And now a real take: this video - not counting the social media, building a portfolio, creating resources and/or investing in a course - is total BULL.

Putting "working for free" and "fighting for fair pay among designers" in the same video would be... corageous, if not for the fact that it's just stupid.
It's quite the contradiction to root for working on one's personal projects/portfolio as a means to "show work you have done even if not for real clients" WHILE not having clients, only to then advocate for free work saying "without having any work to show, how do you expect anyone to hire you without SEEING it?". Are you for real my guy? You just gave the bloody answer to that problem with the portfolio/project bit, and aftwerwards with posting the process online!

And of course the better website builder is the one you're sponsored by, what a shock. This is fucking sad lol.
