The vet in me cannot keep watching without giving unsolicited advice but non-anesthetic dental cleanings are purely cosmetic and have their own risks associated with them. No reputable veterinary clinic offers them. They do not address dental disease at all, which all dogs, especially lil fluffy ones, regardless of how much you try to keep up with dental care at home, will develop. Anesthetic dental cleanings are sooo important for your pup’s health! Without them you can’t clean under the gum line, properly probe, polish away all the abrasions from scraping away tartar, do a thorough oral exam to check for oral masses etc. If he didn’t react well to anesthesia last time (beyond just being drunky which is expected) then your vet should be able to tailor an anesthetic plan for that so next time is smoother.

My dog lived a healthy full life no health issues 17 years I got a dental cleaning for him 1 time per year. I always did a deep cleaning where they put them under. It’s more cost but actually beneficial for a healthy pup in the long run :)

Once your dog gets older over 10 I recommend to ask your vet if they use a special anesthesia for elderly dogs, it’s safer.

I brush my dog's teeth every evening! We do the toothbrush with bristles 360 degrees all the way around and dip in coconut oil. Started with just a dab on her front teeth, then 2 dabs, then 3, then pull her cheek pocket and gently slide once. The smaller baby steps the more successful, she took to it right away (and she's a pom so her mouth is tiny) You got this!

Vinegar helps with white also cleans washer. Also diatomaceous earth is organic and if you put around your house will get rid of bugs.

Fur mom here, use cotton pads or dental pads for dogs and wipe his teeth down. It helps remove food and the layer of developing tarter. I don’t think his reaction to the anesthesia is considered bad also, the vet could better inform you if that’s a sign he’s high risk. It’s worth getting an actual dental cleaning. They can pull out any rotting teeth too if necessary which is key for good overall health.

Depending on which route you’re taking from ME to VT, you should stop in North Conway, NH or Littleton, NH. Both towns are super cute! If you drive through the north you should definitely be going through a NH notch - they’re beautiful, especially in the fall.
