Keychron K8 Pro QMK/VIA Wireless Mechanical Keyboard

This is a quick review of the KeyChron K8 Pro. This is KeyChron's latest mechanical keyboard that I pre-ordered through their Kickstarter campaign. After using this keyboard for less than a week, I can say this is one of the best keyboards I've ever used. This keyboard has support for the QMK / VIA firmware, which allows you to remap keys, create macros, and do other customizations.

Beyond the fact this was such a wonderful demo, presentation and review this is also so timely. I love my Keychron K2 with the brown switches. I love the feel and sound but it is housed in the studio where I can't annoy others. I was just looking for something of the same value but quieter and BAM!!!! I think I found it here. Well done Patrick and the shoutout was unnecessary but awesome :)

Great video. QUICK TIP, yes you can actually go back and forth between lighting styles by pressing; Fn Q or A.
Control brightness by using Fn W or S.
Change color by pressing Fn E or D.

I thought I would replace my K8 with a K8 pro but gave up the idea because the key caps of K8 pro are not shine through type, which, in my opinion, pretty much decreases the value of back lighting in terms of both practicality and aesthetics. The letters, numbers, and marks on the key caps shine and let you know where they are even in insufficient lighting, I think this is the original purpose of back lighting.

One thing I fixed when I first got it was add foam in the space and backspace keycap

VIA seems to have gone with their web page for configuration. Their software hasn’t been updated since June 2020.

There is an alternative, called VIAL. It’s way better and works with the JSON file you get from Keychron. And Keychron told me they are working to make their keyboards native for VIAL.

Love my K8 Pro. Got the Q0 number pad to go with it and it’s just as nice.

I also love the sound of this keyboard. Unfortunately, any YT sound test can't reflect real sensation. You would have to assure both very good quality microphone and good quality audio on the other end. All the tests I have seen on YT are just far from real sound, I think this is because popular microphones are more sensitive to any sound if there is no ambient sound.
Writing on this keyboard is just great, it is fully customizable, you can create your custom micros with QMK/VIA, you can just adapt it to your needs... and sounds cool at the same time ;)
For me, the sound is more like breaking a chocolate bar.

I think the backlight can be set on VIA app, but yeah, you need to install them first ( and I heard, this is the first "budget" keyboard from keychron that support QMK/VIA so that might be a good direction)

You need a better mic for your sound test, the keyboard does not sound like that all in real life

This is the first mechanical keyboard I ever purchased. The wireless connectivity does not work! Customer service is trash! All you have to do is google the company, their customer service, and their wireless connection. This company is trash, and the keyboard is trash.
