Anna Haining Bates (1846-1888) was a Canadian woman famous for her extraordinary height of 2.41 m (7 feet 11 inches), once recorded as the tallest woman in the world during her time.
Born in Nova Scotia, Bates soon showed a difference in height compared to those around him. At the age of 5, she was 1.42 m tall and weighed more than 45 kg. By the age of 22, her height reached 2.29 m and weighed 159 kg.
Bates began participating in traveling circuses at a young age, attracting public attention with his unique appearance. She married Martin Van Buren Bates, another giant of a man, and together they became a show stopper.
Besides his circus career, Bates also acted in films and became a cultural icon. She was dubbed the "Giant Queen" and attracted media attention worldwide.
However, Bates' life also encountered many difficulties due to poor health and social prejudices. She died in 1888 at the age of 41, leaving behind a legacy of an extraordinary woman who overcame barriers and became a unique icon in history.
