Grocery CEO predicts meat shortages in coming weeks

C&S Wholesale Grocers CEO Mike Duffy argues the U.S. will see some meat shortages for the next two weeks before meat processing plants start reopening, and that produce will not be impacted.

Why are our shelves empty because they are having problems exporting? Walmart is not closing because an employee or employee's have the Coronavirus so why should meat packing places have to close? These are essential business's and should not close. Now we should not be receiving imported meats or we should not be exporting. Americans should not have to go hungry because we can't export meat. Get our factories opened and take care of Americans first.

My local sale barn told farmers not to bring any cattle in. No buyers. Some farmers had to go back to the sale barn and haul their cattle back home. I suggest people invest in a chest freezer and start buying a quarter of beef, a hog or lambs from a local farmer. The farmers can make more money and the buyer will save. Plus you can have a direct relationship with the person growing your food. My steers are sold out through February of next year. My lambs are spoken for too. There is always hunting. There are deer all over my area. Poaching season is open year round. Quit listening to the government. Take care of your own business and your own family. Prepare yourself for your own future. Be independent and free of debt.

There's plenty of meat and chicken at local meat markets in small towns. They get cows, pigs and chickens from local farmers. My mom goes to one about 20 miles from where she lives. She tells me they have plenty of meat on hand and they are busy.

This is confusing. Last week our Win Dixie had a clearance ($1 a lb )on hamburger, sausage and a few other red meats. This was a whole freezer next to the sea food deli. Now, there is a shortage of meat? The butcher at Winn Dixie said, " no way". Someone is trying to make a bunch of money.

Who are these ranchers euthanizing animals? Almost everyone I know owns cattle. No one is euthanizing any of them.
Maybe the factory farmed pigs and chickens, I could see. They send their chickens to China to be processed. Smithfield is owned by China, as well.
