1930s GASOLINE BLOW TORCH RESTORATION - With Testing!

In this torch restoration video, I am restoring an antique Turner 206A gasoline blow torch. The Turner Brass Works produced this model over many decades, which made it challenging to identify the exact year. My best guess, based on the wooden handle and the shape the sticker left on the fuel tank, is that it is from the mid-1940's to the early 1950's. If you know more information on these, please leave a comment below.

This was a challenging restoration, and many parts gave me trouble. I was able to get help from a local machine shop, Sun Tools. They were extremely friendly and allowed me to watch and help the part being turned. Can't wait until I get my lathe in my shop!

But check these guys out! They were filling an order for a large workout equipment company when I was there. They do amazing work.

I was a bit nervous about firing this up. Everywhere I looked online showed some awful stories about catastrophic failure. So I really took my time a triple checked everything...twice. If you decide to work on one of these, please be extremely careful, the slightest error can be hazardous.

Just picked up the same model torch yesterday with the idea of cleaning it up and making it a user again. Thank you for the time you put into this beautiful restoration!

I just picked up the same one at a flea market! I had the same urge to make it some beautiful shelf art, but after watching your involved video I’ve decided this thing is meant to be dirty and I’d better just leave it that way. But I do intend on making it reliable to use at the least, so I really appreciate this video for seeing all the inner workings!

As your dad I’m a little prejudiced but you took this restoration to the next level. Many people don’t realize how much time it takes to do this whole production from the restoration itself (including Photoshop work on decal) to hours of editing. And a few calls to old dad to get some input😜. Very proud of you. Keep it up👍

I love the way you have to scrap for brass parts! I too have repurposed brass plumbing fittings for various uses. Well done! 👏

FINALLY! An actual restoration video. Many videos say, "restoration" but they are just polishing a turd!
Congratulations on a great video and an actual restoration video.

Thank you for this video. I have an identical model torch, although from a different brand. It's ready for restoration and I was hoping to find something to guide me. You did an outstanding job on your torch. I hope I can do half so well. I really want it for a tool in the shop. I blacksmith for a hobby and these torches are very useful.

That was amazing. I have two of these torches I found at a family ranch when we moved our parents into a smaller house.

Look forward to restoring them for my parents.

Cheers

I was at my grandmother's house just yesterday, and literally found this exact model in the attic. In about the same condition. The plastic knob and 95% of the sticker is missing. Great video!

Now That is a proper restoration, and not just buffing it up, are painting a tool, and declaring you restored it. Very very nice work, and you've made yourself proud, by doing it the right way, and that's never the easy way. Yet, it's easier than doing it the second time.
I already read your Pop's comments, and his chest busted the buttons off his shirt it swelled up so big. So it's obvious his feelings about the efforts you applied in a few pieces of shiny brass, and all that goes into a excellent video.
That, and you listened, when he gave his advice. No school, like old school knowledge, when you need it.

I like your restoration decisions. you didnt try to grind out all the little imperfections and left them. it adds character and tells its story.

I just bought a butler gasoline torch that looks identical to this one...might shine it up but won't be doing a restoration.
You did a great job!

I don't think you're getting enough credit. This was a difficult restoration that you made look easy.

I came here to learn how to fix one of these and I guess I shouldn't be surprised that half the people in the comments are doing the same thing lol. Good work.
