When I saw Hailstorm and Winter I was this close to tears 🤏🏻

This made me cry. If you really think about it, they all are broken. The villains especially (except for wasp mostly.)
DarkStalker had bad ideas, they were evil. But he had good intentions, and just wanted the best for his family and friends but it was all taken away from him twice.

Chameleon wanted a normal life, but just because of some little defect he had he was outcast from the rain forest.

Albatross was betrayed, he had a purpose and he thought he had a sister, until his nephew came along and snatched it from him. He truly was just sad.

Sundew had a horrible childhood, raised as a tool with horrible parents and the same sentence told to her multiple times.

I was having a really bad day but when i saw Freedom, Orca and Sundew it made my day cause there some of my favourite characters thank you for being kind

Snowfall is my favorite, and yes they are all broken. Kestrel lost her dragonets and was exiled from the sky kingdom, winter is caught up with his family hating him, snowfall is crushed by the greif and stress of being queen and losing her mother. Gill had the worst way to die. Killed by his ow daughter. And sundew was raised and trained in a way that can’t be undone, but it’s just sad

I would kill to see a book (or a winglet, or even just a few lines in the upcoming guidebook!) from hailstorm’s perspective. Out of all the (many) traumatized characters in this series, his situation is by far the most unique and complex. He wasn’t just imprisoned, but physically, mentally, and spiritually trapped as an entirely different person FOR YEARS! For years he WAS Pyrite, and as far as he knew, he had always been Pyrite, but in less than a day, suddenly she was gone. She *died*, and out of nowhere he suddenly remembered who he used to be YEARS ago, but a huge part of him still saw himself as Pyrite, and I’m not convinced he completely stopped seeing himself that way. What he went through and what he’s still going through in the current canon must be incredibly confusing and frustrating and depressing, but also weird relatable in an odd sort of way? I was hopeful that Snowfall’s book would touch upon how he’s doing, but he’s only briefly mentioned in it, and I don’t believe he is even given a speaking line if I remember correctly! Inner conflict is my favorite storytelling device (love me some man v self), and Hailstorm has a lot of potential to tell a real tearjerking story I think!

(This also may just be my biased interpretation, but their apparent LONGING to be Pyrite again, and having to hide those feelings around their family to stop them from worrying about him (or berating him) reads as trans to me a bit! Would LOVE to see that kind of rep in WoF)

When I saw winter and flame I literally wanted to cry, all of these characters have such sad backgrounds:(

Freedom: Strangled and used as soon as she took her first breath of air. She was used and trapped for 500 YEARS. She’d never even truly lived, only watched it, viewed the life she could’ve had, observed what sun could’ve felt like on her scales, what grass could’ve felt like between her talons.

Albatross: He still remembers the first time he used his magic. The way his sister looked at him. He’d never wanted anyone to hate him. He only wanted space, peace. What did that get him? A insane sister with no talons and a corrupted mind. He had too much power, it made him feel stronger, made him forget how bad everything he done was.

Gill: he lost so many of his daughters, and his best friend. He never even saw his only living daughter because he was kidnapped before he got to meet her. In the end he was deprived of something all seawings cherish.. which drove him insane, to the point where he tried to murder his own daughter, blinded by desperation.

Flame: what a burden. He grew up being taught to be something he could never be. Rage consumed his actions, his mind. Morrowseer had so many expectations for him. Too many. Flame was told he was a back up, a replacement for somebody with such an important destiny.

Arctic: Expectations. It was too much for him. He was blindly searching for an exit from his mother’s searing glare and profound scowl. Foeslayer was a light in that dark, a sense of prosperity. He did things to be with her that it tore him apart in the end. Making him cold, leaving him in a perpetual angry state. He didn’t bother trying to be a good father figure since he didn’t know how. His last words still sting like a thousand needles.

Orca: MY LITTLE BABY-*ahem* Orca was incredibly intelligent, and conservative. She never wanted to kill her mother, the power she could’ve inherited would’ve crushed her. A seven year old dragonet with a kingdom under her talons.. sometimes I wonder if it was better for her to not have survived, instead of living in agony.

Darkstalker: His heart was smashed to pieces over and over by everybody he loved. He’d only tried to help everyone. Fathom and clearsight betrayed him. Whiteout left him. Foeslayer died for them. And Arctic.. He did bad things, sure but it was all for what he thought was the greater good.

Hailstorm: tricked, his mind wiped for so much of his life. He was brainwashed, trained to be a minion through his teenage years. He came back to a completely different world. One where all dragon tribes get along, even work together.

Winter: Don’t tell him I said this, but he’s a big softie 🫢🤭🤫 Unfortunately for him, dragons with emotion are seen as weak in the ice kingdom. Hailstorm was the only one kind to him, and he ran away when Hailstorm needed him most. He lectured himself almost his entire childhood about being a weak coward.

Peril: She was tricked, manipulated into thinking the only one who’d ever actually love her was a dragon who never actually cared for her, who used her. She was a puppet, a weapon, a toy used to kill dragons for Scarlets entertainment. In the end she was blamed for it all?! This poor dragon just needs comfort and the only one who can give it to her is being influenced by others to not trust her.

Chameleon: He was laughed at and gossiped about. All he wanted was to be like everybody else. He never could because of something he was born into. His own daughter betrayed him in the end, saying “He had too much power.” All he wanted was someone to love him. To actually love him.

Icicle: she drove herself insane trying to save her brother, trying to escape Scarlets talons. She was seen as a villain because she wanted to see Hailstorm again, because she wanted to know that her brother was okay.

Sundew: what a tough life, growing up to murder, to commit genocide, to start a war. Her own mother treated her like a soldier, like another pawn in her army. Willow was a breath of fresh air and yet, she was almost forced into a marriage with a dragon she didn’t love.

Snowfall: Glacier put a lot on her shoulders, a whole kingdom. She left too soon, too young. Snowfall was left motherless, sister-less, and with a whole kingdom to run. How did anyone expect her not to break?

Kestrel: I used to hate her because of the way she treated the dragonets. Now I know why she did and it’s heart breaking. her daughter and son were taken from her. Her son will forever hate her because she tried to save him by pretending to murder him, her daughter will forever miss her and regret the decision she chose to make. The dragonets just reminded her of those two pairs of blue eyes staring up at her, those tiny talons reaching for her. It was too much for her to handle.

Flame didn’t deserve what he got. He got separated from his mother, and then he got injured very badly by one of his closest ‘friends’ I guess you could call her (I don’t know Flame and Viper’s relationship, and I know it was by accident, but it still happened). He got reunited with his mother, and then he got separated from her again not long after reuniting with her. Poor guy
