Couple things to note:
1) I'm not suggesting the fluid is the primary or even secondary reason for the tank's failures, just an interesting lesser-known flaw that I read about.
2) I did mention the autoloader/carousel as the major fault point for the T-80 in the first version of this video, but the comments section became a civil war of people arguing whether or not that was actually true or if it was secondary ammo storage, so decided not to include that.

It doesn't matter if it has hydraulics or electronics. The autoloader itself is essentially a huge powder keg that sits right in the middle of where a gunner would target.

every tank is death trap if the enemy has the right ammo.

Honestly any tank is a death trap if it faces another one, the matter is who spots the enemy first

Nothing to do with hydraulic fluid. It's the fact that if the tank gets hit, it sets off a chain reaction of munition explosions inside the tank

But let’s be honest that circular ammo loading thing is cool as fuck

Pretty much all modern tanks use hydraulic power. Maybe not for an auto-loader but to rotate the turret and elevate/depress the main gun. The M1 Abrams has used fire resistant hydraulic fluid since the first batch came off the assembly line 45 years ago. I assume the T-80 does also.

The problem with the auto loader is it’s position. All the ammo is stored under the Turret in a ring. So if it gets hit, there’s a huge chance of the turret shooting into the air

As someone who works around heavy machinery, and as someone who has done this exact thing im about to suggest, but you can hold a torch to hydraulic fluid for up to an hour, thats a solid hour of direct flame at metal cutting temperatures, and it will never catch fire, it simply is not that flammable, and is not the cause of catastrophic explosions inside the autoloader tanks, its simply the fact that the entire magazine is exposed to the crew compartment, resulting in the entire tank being a grenade, where at most NATO tanks keep that ammo in a separate compartment, behind a blast door to protect the crew

It looks like Every tank is a death trap in modern combat

>"Poorly trained crews

"Hey, you see that $50, 000 missle being fired from a $400, 000 launcher, courtesy of American tax payers?"

"Yeah?"

"Well if we were trained better, that missle would just bounce off the top of our hull"

To be fair, every tank is a death trap when facing off against another tank. It just matters who spots the other one first.

The Brits have a tea maker in the challenger while the Russians have a pressure cooker 😂❤

The main problem is neighter the hydraulic fluid, not the autoloader. The main problem is that half of the ammo is stored all over the place outside of the autoloader. Next to the driver, behind and below the gunners and TC-seats and so on. And crew training is i non-factor, once you get hit.

It's not the automatic recharger that is the problem, nor even the carousel on the bottom of the turret. The problem is that in Soviet tanks, second-round ammunition was distributed in every available space throughout the tank. This means that no matter where a shell penetrates the armor it is likely to encounter ammunition that will ignite the remaining propelling charges throughout the tank.

I like how the gunpowder charge looks like a ridiculously large shotgun shell.

"Hey T 80, you're deadly to your crew, " said Leopard2 in Bradley Square.

This is like saying when a pickup truck hits a person, the trucks with metal letters do more damage than the trucks with plastic letters
