Personally, I would prefer they do this practice, over the self-flagellation that other people do during Holy Week. Their act of penance is much more silent and humble

I am not surprised about this traditions as I have seen it many times on Youtube particularly that of the Holy week traditions in Andalucia, Spain, it is so rich in culture that in some parts of the Philippines that traditions from Andalucia, Spain has been adopted. Ikalat itong tradisyon nato sa buong bansa, nanood ako ng ibang videos pagdating sa Semana Santa at nalaman ko na common ito sa South America at syempre sa Spain. Iadopt ito sana ng mga penitentiary confraternities dito sa bansa.
