Decomposed Granite is a material that is actually rarely sold in many stone yards and landscape supply yards. What are most often sold are Crushed Stone Fines or Rock Dust. I explain here the basic differences.

Thank you for the useful information on crushed granite and alternatives. Your notes about using different sizes for different purposes was helpful.

I’m in central California (drought country) and I’m looking to do a patio made out of some sort of concrete alternative. My plan is to make the surface as hard packed as possible to sustain a medium amount of foot traffic and hold my stationary patio furniture. My local rockerys carry DG or another product that they say is comparable called Ginger Path Fines. Which do you think would work better for my application? Your advice would be much appreciated!

A small ant can break it apart and bring dirt from below the surface to the top, so stabilized material is not worth the money spent.
