Many streets were closed and turned into one-way paths, making it a real challenge to reach the iconic Shibuya Scramble Crossing at midnight. Surrounded by heavy police presence and under strict rules that prohibited stopping, the crowd’s determination to gather at the crossing created an unforgettable atmosphere. I don’t understand what the police could do if there is a stampede as at Itaewon in 2022. A bullhorn or whistle won’t prevent a panicky crowd from trampling people. The police should limit the number of people in the street.
