Secretary of State Antony Blinken has begun a second day of talks with Chinese officials, with little sign of breakthrough on major issues that divide the two powers. Issues include Taiwan, the Russia-Ukraine war, U.S. nuclear agreements with allies in the Pacific and human rights conditions in China and Hong Kong.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to push ahead this week with his coalition’s judicial reform legislation after opposition leaders suspended talks last week. Opponents responded by threatening more protests against the government.

And beginning next week, jurors in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting trial of Robert Bowers must decide whether he should receive the death penalty. Bowers was convicted Friday on all 63 federal charges in the 2018 murders of 11 people at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill, PA.
