The Fort at the edge of Oxley and Seventeen Mile Rocks is probably one of the most valuable pieces of land in the area situated at the highest point with perfect views of Mt Cootha, the city and overlooking Fig Tree Pocket at a bend in the muddy Brisbane River.
Sadly it is owned by the Catholic Passionist Order who took ownership of the land in the 1950's without paying a dime and being a religious sect presumably continue to enjoy the area without any outlay of money.

The Corinda Montrose site continues the areas tradition of the most valuable land being given away free and was given to Montrose in the 1930's to care for children with Polio until a new building was constructed in the 1970's and Montrose became a Special Needs School.

The new 34 properties currently being built on the old Montrose site won't be taking full advantage of the views available.
