A really good message and worship was really great.

I’d love if one day we could just come together and just have a worship service and just praise God

This was so awesome I was watching it again, I missed this part while sitting in church.

I had asked you this during a Q&A, but as a kind of a trick question because the answer is, as you said, "both".

Did David sin against God alone as the Psalm says, or did he sin against Bathsheba (et al) as well?

Both are absolutely true. Bathsheba did not create the world nor write the law. She did not impose a standard of righteousness to which anyone has to adhere. Our sin is against God, and God alone--*in this context.*

Jesus spoke about this in an entirely different situation. "If a brother sins against you..." He was more like saying, "If a brother breaks God's Law in such a way that trespasses against you..." and gave instructions for that scenario.

Anyway, here's what I think happened. David was gazing back fondly on his sin, (despite the horrible collateral damage) at his initial encounter with Bathsheba and the resulting wife & child whom he loved. Currently, David was no longer breaking any of God's Laws in regards to that situation. He probably kind of thought things were square. So God sent Nathan to talk to him. When Nathan finished, David sought the Lord and God had a talk with him. He had to teach David that if he truly loved Him, sinning against Him should break his heart.

Then David jotted down this stuff in a nice little Psalm so we could learn from this experience, too.
