The rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake has faced some development difficulties, a well-known leaker has claimed. Despite one notable setback, the reimagining of Final Fantasy 9 is reportedly not in danger of cancellation, and is said to be progressing well.

While not officially confirmed, the game itself has been considered as one of Square Enix's worst-kept secrets for a while now. The first piece of evidence pointing to its existence dates back to summer 2021, when a Final Fantasy 9 remake was mentioned in the Nvidia GeForce Now leak, which has repeatedly been proven accurate. Multiple insiders have reaffirmed its existence ever since.

FF7R referenced amazing stuffs from FF9 like Mastering skills from weapon and having AP for passive abilities / boosts.

This game has the least complicated mechanics of all the golden age Final Fantasy but still managed to have depth.

When I was a kid around 8 yrs old, I thought FF9 is a Disney type fantasy. This is my first FF. 4 hrs in, every town I visit, has bloodshed happening, people dying everywhere. Towns being blasted by Eidolons and existential crisis and betrayals are happening on every scenarios.

Imagine the trauma I had when I saw Odin crushed Cleyra and Atomos sucking up houses and people.

My Dad was more engrossed in it tbh.

Final Fantasy IX borrows more heavily from its manga and anime medium of Japanese art. It is intended to have a somewhat artistic and cartoony aesthetic to it. It’s very similar to something like Chrono Trigger and yes hyper realism would just not do it justice. I enjoyed Rebirth for what it was, but I also do feel that to much bloated content and changes hindered the pacing of the experience as well. I really hope this game is remade in the same vane as like the Mana series but not full scale photo realism like FF VII. Although Midori actually confirmed this isn't the case so will just have to be patient and see it for our selfs, but yes I am INCREDIBLY excited for this as its my favorite FF game of all time.

I absolutely would be thrilled with 4K remake of the original game. Updated character models, same gameplay, same music, up-res’d pre-rendered backgrounds… 😌

Personally I see Final Fantasy IX Remake being released during the summer or autumn season next year and have a complete gameplay overhaul where it will be similar to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I also see it being released on multiple platforms. I'm hoping that it has airship gameplay similar to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag but in the skies mixed with Kingdom Hearts gummi ship gameplay. I also hope it goes the action combat of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth mixed with Kingdom Hearts.
