WALKING IN SUFFOLK | THE COUNTY TOWN OF IPSWICH AND THE DOCKS

Welcome back to Suffolk for this 2 to 3.5 mile circular walk around Ipswich, the county town of Suffolk.

I was joined by the very lovely Candice, as well as James, Mary and Bella from Bad Hair Adventures (they live in Ipswich). This video was filmed in early December 2020, not long after our Christmas Camp on the Suffolk coast at Covehithe. This was BEFORE Tier 4 and Lock Down restrictions came into place, when we were still allowed to meet up with groups of up to 6 people for outdoor exercise, i.e walking.

I was very surprised by the vast amount of historical figures that hail from Ipswich, along with the vast amount of OLD buildings hiding away amongst the new modern buildings. This has been one of the most fascinating things I've found when doing these urban town walks - the hidden history.

at 10:32, what was that ark? I read a short story about a guy recalling hearing stories of a bunch of kids growing up in the area and fishing the local waters. Things they saw, did and found growing up in the 50' and 60's there. The man telling the story was the son of one of these kids and at the time, living in Germany. As he told the stories, I could almost see it happening. Now, seeing the city first hand with you, it's just as I pictured it, only In place of the stores, I imagined bread and pastry shops, smoke shops etc, like on Sweeney Todd. The human mind is an amazing thing when you think about it. cheers

Good one! It was lovely seeing the place again as I’ve not been there since about 2001 for work reasons plus my nanna was apparently from there and I remember taking a photo of one of the old streets for my mum; looks a nice place and I’d never seen that marina! 👍🏻

What were your thoughts on the town Tom? seeing as you saw it both on a grey cold day and during a pandemic

You made me cry. The three who had a good time, and got drunk, sleeping it off. All you cared about they were alright. You got a big heart Tom. I've told you before you're in the wrong job. People are turning to drink and other substances to get through this plandemic. Looks like a good historic town.
