I find shopping at high end brands these days extremely uncomfortable. I'm old school and I really miss times when I could just pop in and browse in the shop and nobody was rolling their eyes if I didn't buy anything. I find the whole concept of befriending an SA totally strange. I go to a shop to purchase an item I like; not to make friends. When I drop few grand on a bag, I'm expecting a tip top service and I shouldn't be begging for it. 🙄🙈
Thank god for online shopping, saves me all the drama 😂

I disagree somewhat. Aside from being polite and respectful, I don’t feel I should have to do anything special to guarantee good service. This is their job, to be the public face of their brand. Having said that, I’ve only been treated poorly by one brand, Hermes.

Although not luxury, Coach boutiques have always bent over backwards to help me. Very courteous even when I tell them I am just browsing. They always come back and check on me. Sophie has mentioned this brand in the past so I thought I would as well.

As a non-luxury shopper, it boggles the mind when people say they need to "play the Hermes game" or look a certain way when they step inside the luxury shop so they don't get ignored/treated poorly. That's horrible. Just act like your normal self and be polite just as you would elsewhere. These luxury brands need you in order to make a profit and they target middle class aspirational consumers via their marketing...you don't need them. You don't need these items to help you feel better about yourself or your life. There is beauty in the ordinary and the mundane and simplicity. There is beauty in resisting this social media conditioning. An alarming number of Americans are in thousands of dollars of credit card debt or behind on their mortgage payments. Just so they can look rich for people who don't know them/care about them with money they don't have. This is why influencer hyper-consumerism culture is going wild on social media.

Gucci has been the best so far - never annoying, always helpful and pleasant people just to have a conversation with. They feel just normal. It’s a pleasure to visit them.

When I went to Italy they were all rude. I was there for a few days. So I went to a local leather goods store in Pisa and had a bag made for me said it's so well made I still have it after 20 years and it looks like new. No one believes me when I tell them how old it is.

Bought the clear bag from *esluxy* to go to a concert. It was GREAT! Breezed through security and wore it as a cross body so I could dance and groove!!

My first luxury item was a Gucci bag i was 19-20ish, went with my mom in Paris, it was the nicest experience! They were super respectful, nice and attentive..it was my first personal (my own money) purchase and its a lovely memory, i love and treasure the bag to this day! Shopping experience is soooo important

I 100% agree with you about the customer service in Dior. Every single Dior I’ve ever been to has been friendly and helpful. Even my husband loves shopping in Dior. I hope the rumors circulating are not true. We always have good service in Prada as well. The sales people there seem to be cut from the same cloth. I always say hello first when I walk into any boutique. If we are abroad I make sure to say hello in their language and it seems to go a long way.

I work for Dior in London, and we are trained heavily on customer service, but also the culture within the brand and team just makes you want to provide the best service where you can. Also, as the brand almost sells itself, there’s less hunger to force sales for targets etc which may be different in other brands

Ive noticed that if one walks in with a specific shopping list or piece in mind (instead of browsing), they are more eager and happy to help 😂 I only window shop online, and go in person when I know what exactly it is that I'm looking for.

I’ve been so “judged” in a Chanel store… I’m appropriately dressed in pants and blouse that I wore for work that day, but alas, I was holding a small parcel in a plastic bag which I collected along the way. I could see the sales associate eyeball the plastic bag and almost rolled his eyes, like he didn’t want to waste his time being assigned to someone who’s not fitting of Chanel. I was quite saddened by his aloof service subsequently and left the shop quickly. Sigh, I was really planning to get a pair of sunglasses… so I ended up popping into Gucci down the street and bought a pair of Gucci sunglasses instead. The Gucci lady was quite nice to me despite the plastic bag. 😅

I agree, politeness is key. You will get back what you put out there, some way or another. Passive aggressiveness is not cool coming from either side. You're absolutely right about knowing what you are looking for, that shows you have invested time in knowing about their product and not having to be schooled on their time. Another luxury brand that gives the upmost customer service is Tiffany, even if you say I'm not buying anything for myself but want to look around to know what I can tell someone else what I want them to buy for me; i.e. gifts. Great video and greetings from Florida!

I've worked in many shops. Just don't go in and demand a discount. Act naturally. And don't keep on saying, "Get your manager". And do say, "Keep 'em coming, Sophie"! xxx

This may or may not translate but I find that when I visit high end car dealerships I always have a much better experience if I call ahead or make an appointment.

I mean its like saying: "Lets take a crash course on how to spend a shit lot of money and not be slapped in the face while we do it".

The fact that you need to AVOID bad customer service is next level sad. I love you for the luxury stuff Sophie, but I would never buy anything in any of those places my self even if I could afford every single thing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nah, just be kind and if they treat you like garbage, they are garbage people.

Don’t spend your money at a brand that treats you like that.

I usually agree with Sophie, but this time I can't.
Sales people are working there, they get payed for it. If customer is polite but tried on 20 dresses without bying - it's fine!
Because customers should feel confident and good, not dance around sales person or have any doubts about asking and trying things on.
If people are rude- their loss! no need to adjust to those rules and buy from them..

It's just a shop in the end of the day with very high prices tho)

I’m in Aus and basically broke😅 - I’ve always found Hermes very friendly and happy for me to look around even though I’m not a purchaser, LV 95% good and Chanel awful and not bothered to even leave their personal chat and say hello.
