She was an adorable child. I'm so glad her parents allowed her to talk and explain everything that was going on.

I had a case that looked like this. It turns out I’m allergic to soy! The ER doctor told me that one more day of soy could have caused anaphylaxis. Im lucky that I caught it when I did! I was in my 20’s and had no known food allergies. I was sent to see an allergist and found out I’m allergic to 26 things. All environmental except fish and soy.

My favorite story is my allergist telling me that I need to not have dogs or cats since I’m allergic (very mild allergy compared to the rest). I told my allergist that I’d rather die of a anaphylaxis than get rid of my animals. Let’s just say that 15 years later he doesn’t bring up the fact that I have a cat and spend a lot of time with dogs! I did 5 years of allergy injections for everything but my food and pet allergies and am doing so much better!

OMG! My son had this exact same rash 5 years ago and no one could figure it out! He was treated with steroids and it finally went away. But we never figured out what it was and it's always bothered me. They didn't even know what it was. It started on his lower abdomen and inner thighs and started to spread. It made it's way to his armpits and bottom of feet within a week. He had no other symptoms.
I'm so grateful for this video because I've spent years trying to figure out what it was. The only thing that showed up in his labs was a positive EBV within the last 6 months.
I'm just so relieved! Thank you so much for posting this video Dr. Paul. This mama finally has closure.

She’s impressive!! I would have scratched the heck out of that rash! It does look pretty scary - glad to know there’s no cause for panic. She’s in good hands!

Dr. Paul, I worked as an R.N. in a pediatric critical care unit for 32 years at a world class teaching hospital. I have, in that time, seen perhaps 10-12 cases of both SJ and EM. Two of the SJ cases ended in fatalities despite daily whole body dressing changes by staff pulled from a burn unit (so horrible was the extent of the disease). In our unit endotracheal intubation was usually secured by tape, but in these cases there was no skin left on the face to do so and the ET tubes had to be secured with a conventional adult strap. We also had difficulty maintaining both peripheral and central IV access. These patients required 2 on 1 nursing care around the clock in addition to the aforementioned daily hours long dressing changes by the burn staff. I can't remember for sure as it has been several years ago, but I believe overwhelming sepsis was the final cause of death.

Thank God the sweet little girl presented here will in a short time have this rash only as a distant memory.

I am so glad that I am now retired. After three decades I just couldn't take it anymore. God bless all children and you also for what you do.

My daughter developed this within 24 hours of the hep A jab. It was the only one she got that day. The pediatrician said it was absolutely impossible that it was the cause. I literally had to print out the insert and show it to him, listed as a reaction.

My 7 month old was just diagnosed with this. And after being super alarmed by google searches, I have to say this video was extremely comforting to me to watch and hear you explain what this is. Thank you to that super star of a young lady for sharing her experience!

I think I had this happen same thing when I had reoccurring pericarditis many years ago in my mid 20’s. No one could figure it out just said allergic reaction until a trip to the ER with chest pain and a Med flight. It was so uncomfortable and only maintained at that level. Scary at the time, but I’m well and worked in ophthalmic healthcare for 20yrs.

My son got this when he was 1. The only thing i could ever think it might be is a hypersentivity reaction to an essential oil. I had been diffusing tea tree a lot, before i knew better. I did some researching and found a few other cases of erythema multiforme from essential oil exposure too.

Very impressive rash. I don't think I have ever seen one that bad. She is a very cute and articulate girl. I hope the rash goes away and she is doing OK. Many, many years ago I had a rash all over and the doctor had no clue what it was from. I had an allergic reaction to something. It eventually went away.
