When it comes to high jewelry, we can’t deny that India knows how to do it. Rows of pearls, large cuts of emeralds, impossibly glistering diamonds, and heavy weights of gold are part of the culture of this proud country. Today, perhaps, the embodiment of India’s obsession with jewels is Nita Ambani, but did you know that before Mrs. Ambani another Indian had wowed the world with her impressive collection of high jewelry? Yes, her name was Maharani Sita Devi of Baroda.

The Maharani Sita Devi of Baroda loved Van Cleef and Arpels and bought a pair of emerald and diamond anklets from the jeweler. After a while, she sold this to Harry Winston, who reset the stones from the anklet into a necklace for none other than Wallis Simpson. The same Wallis whom King Edward VIII of Britain abdicated the throne to marry. Anyway, the women ran into each other at a ball in New York, where the maharani took one look at the necklace and reportedly said to those around her, “They looked better on my feet.” Of course, the Duchess promptly returned the necklace to Harry Winston. Ladies and gentlemen, in this video, we’ll dive into the famous high jewelry collection of Maharani Sita Devi of Baroda. I promise it’s everything you expect it to be.

Thank you for showing excellent jewelry videos and I really enjoy it. You are showing collections only very few people have seen before. It is time for people around the world to know that there are collections far grander and more expensive than European royal family jewelries. Believe me if I say the diamond necklace is the biggest I have ever seen in videos. I saw a picture of the diamond imperial necklace of Empress Marie Feodorovna of Russia consisting of 36 huge diamonds totaling 475 carats but it is nothing compared to this necklace. The diamonds on the 3 strands where the Star of South and English Dresden were suspended appear much bigger and the whole necklace is fully packed with diamonds with no gape in between. This may be the most expensive diamond necklace ever assembled if valuation is done properly and without bias. In 1927 Pittsburg press released its value as $10 million which is equivalent to around $200 million today. The British coronation necklace or the so called Nizam of Hyderabad necklace crazily valued at more than $80 million on today's prices are fart compared to this necklace. God Bless.
